That feeling when your new build won't power on

Recommended Posts

Just put together my new mITX machine and am getting NO signs of life at all. I tried jumping the power switch pins on the mobo and still no joy. I'm reckoning it's either the PSU or the mobo.

Specs:

OCZ corexstream 500w PSU (i know, it's just temporary until i can get a decent one)

intel DH77DF mobo

8gb corsair xms3 ram

i3 3220

6950 2gb

What do I do?

I would start by retracing all of the component connections where power is needed...... the power connection to the mobo, (make sure that you have all pins connected, including the 4 pin connection, if needed). Then make sure that the small wires for power, LED, HD, ect. are connected and turned so that the power side (with the small triangle) are placed on the + pole. Then make sure that your power supply switch is on. Look to see if there is a green light on in the mobo. If not then it is probably a bad power supply, or a bad board.

Ok, it's the PSU. I just tested with an old 240W one from a prebuilt HP and sure enough it powered up. I guess I'll remove the PSU and see if I can see anything qwrong with it. Othewrwise, time for RMA :/

Thanks for the advice, guys. WIll try shorting the 24pin connector on the psu once i get it out of the case.

Microsoft confirmed June 23, 2026, that its Fairwater campus in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, is fully operational — and the engineering behind it makes the facility something fundamentally different from every data center that came before it. Where conventional cloud infrastructure racks up general-purpose servers and parcels out workloads to each one independently, Fairwater links hundreds of thousands of NVIDIA GB200 Blackwell GPUs into a single, coherent cluster using a two-story building design, 800-gigabit-per-second Ethernet fabric, and a proprietary networking protocol co-developed with OpenAI and NVIDIA. The result, according to Microsoft, is the closest thing to a purpose-built AI supercomputer that any company has ever placed in commercial operation. https://www.techtimes.com/articles/319205/20260627/microsoft-opens-fairwater-wisconsin-ai-campus-runs-one-supercomputer-via-800g-ethernet.htm
