HDD speed impact over other PC components.

Recommended Posts

Hello Neowinians! I bought my new PC and spent my money on mid-range components yet I kept my old Hitachi Sata 1 Deskstar HDD. It is 7200 RPM rated and a bit old.

Core i5 3450 - 8GB 1600 Mhz Ram - 570 GTX nVidia gpu - H77-DS3H Gigabyte Mobo - Windows 7 64 bit SP1.

I wonder how much my HDD slows down my PC . This is mainly a gaming rig. Are my components bogged down in Windows performance , start-up , games much ? Would it be a substantial upgrade if I stick a Sata 3 in my case ? I would ask of you to tell me what would speed up with a fast SSD/Sata 3 HDD.

Sorry for my broken English. Thanks in advance !

SSD all the way. It has a bigger impact than a new CPU/GPU a lot of the time. Just make sure to get the latest revision and update the firmware as soon as you get it.

When I upgraded from a hd to a OCZ Vertex 4, the difference was astounding. The machine seems to fly now. And when I upgrade to i5-3750k + HD7950, it'll be even better :D

    • Tim Cook: "The US over time began to stop having as many vocational kinds of skills." What's the point of wasting time getting those skills if you can't get a job with them? Good Lord, maybe he and his cohort of CEO's who exported all these jobs to China should just shut the f**k up :D
    • I made a new Cinematic/Trailer for the game, this will be the intro, still a work in progress!  I also updated the Steam page with a ton of new screenshots! 👀 https://store.steampowered.com/app/3925340/Incoherence_Dark_Rooms/

Microsoft confirmed June 23, 2026, that its Fairwater campus in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, is fully operational — and the engineering behind it makes the facility something fundamentally different from every data center that came before it. Where conventional cloud infrastructure racks up general-purpose servers and parcels out workloads to each one independently, Fairwater links hundreds of thousands of NVIDIA GB200 Blackwell GPUs into a single, coherent cluster using a two-story building design, 800-gigabit-per-second Ethernet fabric, and a proprietary networking protocol co-developed with OpenAI and NVIDIA. The result, according to Microsoft, is the closest thing to a purpose-built AI supercomputer that any company has ever placed in commercial operation. https://www.techtimes.com/articles/319205/20260627/microsoft-opens-fairwater-wisconsin-ai-campus-runs-one-supercomputer-via-800g-ethernet.htm
