Alfred Molina on 'Spider-Man' return: 'Doc Ock should be recast

Alfred Molina has cast doubt on the possibility of him returning to the Spider-Man movie franchise.

The actor, who played Doctor Octopus in Spider-Man 2, said that the role should be recast if the villain is to reappear in a future instalment.

"I think parts are like rental cars. They don't really belong to you... When a new franchise gets booted up, they're bound to [recast the role], if they revisit similar villains," Molina told Crave Online.

"I think for instance a different actor is going to play the James Franco role and if they revisit Doctor Octopus and they get another actor, that's as it should be."

Marc Webb is currently working on a sequel to last year's Amazing Spider-Man, with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone reprising their respective roles of Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy.

Newcomers to the cast include Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, Jamie Foxx as Electro, Paul Giamatti as Rhino, and Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn.

Amazing Spider-Man 2 arrives in theatres on May 2, 2014.

Alfred Molina was the biggest reason why Spider-Man 2 was such a good movie. His acting was really good and I'd love to see him in a new Spider-Man movie. Most people would find it weird if the same actor plays the same character in a rebooted franchise but it has been done before. Take a look at the James Bond movies. Judi Dench played the same character (M) in the old Pierce Brosnan James Bond movies (GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies) as well as the new ones with Daniel Craig (Casino Royale, Skyfall).

Microsoft confirmed June 23, 2026, that its Fairwater campus in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, is fully operational — and the engineering behind it makes the facility something fundamentally different from every data center that came before it. Where conventional cloud infrastructure racks up general-purpose servers and parcels out workloads to each one independently, Fairwater links hundreds of thousands of NVIDIA GB200 Blackwell GPUs into a single, coherent cluster using a two-story building design, 800-gigabit-per-second Ethernet fabric, and a proprietary networking protocol co-developed with OpenAI and NVIDIA. The result, according to Microsoft, is the closest thing to a purpose-built AI supercomputer that any company has ever placed in commercial operation. https://www.techtimes.com/articles/319205/20260627/microsoft-opens-fairwater-wisconsin-ai-campus-runs-one-supercomputer-via-800g-ethernet.htm
