'God of War' Movie Scribes Talk about Adapting Kratos

Speaking with IGN on Thursday, Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, probably best known for writing the last four SAW sequels, had this to say about how the character of Kratos will be handled in their adaptation:

"In the same way that Batman was grounded with Christopher Nolan's rendition, we were attempting to do that with Kratos so that when we meet him -- like they're doing in this newest game, which is sort of a prequel to the original -- we're seeing him before he became the Ghost of Sparta, when he was just a Spartan warrior and he had family and kids."

"In the game... there's that attack from the barbarians and Kratos has to call upon Ares to help him. Really, that's going to be our first act break. Before then, he's going to be mortal, and he's going to have his family. We're going to learn about him and understand how he operates. So it's potentially 30 minutes -- give or take -- of building up this character so that, when he does turn and becomes the Ghost of Sparta, we understand him as a human and we understand the journey that he's going to take. We're emotionally invested, so that it could go beyond just this one movie."

In addition, Melton and Dunstan stated that they wanted their version of Ares to be a little more goal oriented in his villainy.

"In the game, you know, he's immortal, and he doesn't really do much besides raid Athens... So we're trying to build him up a bit more, too, so that he can become a true villain."

No release date has currently been set for the GOD OF WAR movie, nor has a director been named. It is being produced by ATLAS ENTERTAINMENT.

I might be wrong but sounds like they just stated the most logical approach...woulda been chopping themselves in the foot to start with him as God of War tearing everything up now wouldnt they.

I don't give these guys much credits if the last 4 saw movies are there claim to fame...thankfully one has to try pretty hard to screw up a movie like this.

On the one hand I'm liking what I'm hearing from them in terms of approaching this rendition BUT on the otherhand the SAW movies were terrible.

Certainly won't be like Saw :p

    • Huh? I have an Aeron Remastered and the backrest cannot go up or down (only the lumbar is adjustable). Yes, the Doro C300 Pro V2's backrest can be locked, but the locking mechanism is so weak that when you recline and lean back the backrest moves with your body. I think the whole purpose of this chair is that all of the moving parts (except for the rocking, which can be locked in place) are supposed to move with your body, as you shift your weight, that's why I couldn't get used to it. Some people might like it though. Its redeeming factor is the price, I mean it costs like a quarter of what a new Herman MIller (Aeron) costs.
    • Well done Massie. This is how to treat the Fox News filth.
    • I notice how you dodged the questions I had about the racism shown by ignorant, gullible, cowardly people when the Poles, like your partner, were the immigrants. Ahem. I wonder how you'd feel if native born Brits suddenly treated you as "dirty crooked immigrant" for being half Trump-American? If they ordered you to leave and "go back to your corrupt country" (on the other side of the Atlantic), would you go? The truth is based on facts as supported by evidence. As requested in your previous posts, I have used the facts in your own post to show everyone the truth.
    • US citizens are paying to their government, who could use that to fund healthcare and tuition and relieve the costs of these for citizens instead of making tax breaks that overwhelmingly favor the rich. I'm not saying that tariffs are the correct solution, but what else would they be used for? What else could Trump have in mind for wanting them, if he hasn't figured out that labor costs are higher in the US?
