Bizkit
I am looking into getting an iBook for around the price of my computer. Now, I think that I will have around $500 to spend, and on Ebay I found some G3 iBooks, 12", for around that price. Now, I will or course max the RAM, cause I hear that will help out alot, and get the Airport card. All I will be doing is Internet, music, and maybe Diablo II. I think that the G3 should work, or is it just getting too old? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/190173-is-g3-too-old/ Share on other sites
Southern Patriot
My G3 PowerBook runs just fine. Is the iBook you are considering one of the original models (the colored ones) or one of the all-white ones? If it's an all-white one, then you will have a computer at least 100Mhz faster than mine. With at least 512MB of RAM, it will serve you well for what you are intending (although I am not sure about the requirements of Diablo II, as I've never played it). edit: For a similar price though, you might consider looking at a Pismo model PowerBook like mine, if you can find one. It is far more upgrade-friendly than an iBook would be. There are CPU upgrades available now all the way up to 1Ghz, and it can take pretty much any standard optical drive (CD-RW, combo drive, or even DVD-RW). It's also much easier to work on, and can handle up to 1GB of RAM. It also has a larger screen (14"). Bizkit
It was the all white one. And the reason that I am getting the 12" is that I really need it small, like taking it places. I mean, its not like I am gonna be doing movie editing on this thing. Thanks for the information though. I will still look into it. It is a royal pain to swap a drive out in a white iBook. In my G3 PowerBook, I can literally swap out the hard drive in 5 minutes or less. I can swap out the optical drive in less time than that. When I tried putting a burner in a friend's white iBook, it took nearly 30 minutes just to get it apart far enough to get the old drive out!
