IE10 - Automatically force sites into a compat mode

Recommended Posts

Kind of a longshot question, but I was wondering if there's an addon for IE10 that allows users to set their own compatibility settings for certain sites and make them persistent without having to hit F12 and changing it each time I visit the site. Official position from MS would be to contact the webmasters and get them to fix their sites, but not all webmasters are that responsive or bothered to cater to a browser with a fairly tiny marketshare at the moment (ironic for IE).

Only site that I would like to use this on is the Canadian Metro news site. Took them months to make the site work properly in IE after I emailed them in early October. Before it was stuck in IE7 standards which completely broke the site. Now it's in IE8 standards, which is okay but font rendering isn't as great as in IE9/10 standards mode.

I also know of that XML file you can edit for compatibility settings, but that file gets overwritten each time MS issues an update.

1. Enable Menu Bar in IE

2. Go to Tools and hit "Compatibility View settings"

now add whatever site or all sites you want to force in compatibility mode as you like. Hope it will help you.

That would help for sites that display better in older versions of IE, but not the other way around - for instance, a page that looks fine in IE10 Standards mode when its current doctype forces the page to IE8 or lower.

Ah now I understand.. Sorry I might be not helpful in this regard. Sorry! I will try to look if their will be some method to edit Compatibility list like you want to do.
