I'm looking for a 10gb player. I want it to be rechargable and small like these 2. I've narrowed it down to these 2 and I would like to hear pros and cons of each.

I've heard that the iPod has battery problems and the case scratches very easily.

But I've also heard the Zen NX has a problem with software and the fact that you need the software for Windows to detect it as a hard drive.

Help anyone?

you can't get a 10Gb Zen. however, you can get a 20Gb, or 130Gb.

put it this way, a 20Gb Zen NX (there's a one out, i checked it yesteday) is cheaper than a first generation (oldest) iPod in 10Gb.

many argue that iPod is better simply becuase it looks sleeker and is smaller. i disagree. the Zen NX in blue/brushed aluminium looks so much better than the iPod's plain white colour. however, iPod has USB 2.0 as opposed to the Zen, which doesn't (both have Firewire IIRC). here are some sites that would help you out:

iPod vs. Zen

Review - Zen NX on cNet

Review - iPod on cNet

make sure to read the user reviews for user opinions and problems they encountered. remember, there will always be good and bad results.

in my opinion, i will choose the Zen only becuase it is cheaper and looks better than the iPod. granted, the iPod is a few millimetres smaller than the Zen, but the extra few hundred dollars i will have to pay surely outweighs that. right now i am deciding whether to get an iRiver (have you considered the iRiver harddrive player? looks really beautiful, like a palm pilot), or a 512 memory player (iRiver).

Spend $249 for a 20 GB Zen Nx + $25 for Red Chair Notmad Explorer software (well worth it!) and go out and spend $25 for something else and smile when you realize that you just got twice the storage of the $299 iPod and have a replaceable 14 hour battery. Or spend the $299 for the 30 GB Zen NX and laugh outloud because now you have 3 times the storage as the same priced iPod. And if you are concerned about the LCD display being to small them buy the Zen Xtra...either way the Zens are a better value and have a better audio quality than the iPod.

Also check out this review from an iPod owner.

From the CNet review:

The bad: No FM or voice recording; line-in recording included but not enabled; battery life compromised somewhat by small size; no AAC ripping or purchasing by Windows users.
Should now read:
The bad: No FM; battery life compromised somewhat by small size.

i have used both and imho the zen nx feels rather cheap compared to the ipod, it is still a nice player and everything, and would seem to be easier to replace the battery on in the future

but with the new ipod firmware that just came out the sound quality is improved and the 'snappiness' of the menus seem to be fixed i highly doubt you would regret getting an ipod

also girls dig guys with ipods, they could care less about creative's hardware  and most of them never even heard of them

If you're worried about scratching it, the case can avoid a lot of that. I usually keep mine in my case, maine because it looks even better that way to me.

I agree, thats what I do. One thing about the iPod I don't like is the fact that you get lots of finger prints on it (I have the 3G 40Gb model). Other than that they are great. I saw the NX but wasn't really enthused about it to tell you the truth.

iPod is the king. :) looks way slicker than Zen NX imo.

plus there's a lot of accessories to make it even better. many many cases to choose from, and accessories like an infra-red remote control (the naviPOD), car holder, cassette adapter, voice recorder, media reader (supports CompactFlash, SmartMedia, Secure Digital, Memory Stick, and MultiMediaCard) lets you store your photos on it easily, FM transmitter...

the choice is clear. :) the only good thing about the Zen is the price tag. if you want quality product, iPod all the way. :)

i got the first generation 10GB iPod, used it for about a year and sold it on ebay for AUD$645. :) then got myself a third-gen 15GB iPod for AUD$799.

the price has dropped a lot now. the 10GB is only AUD$505, 20GB is AUD$679, 40GB is AUD$879. and people still complain it's expensive. oh well...

go with the ipod.

for windows or mac, you don't need a seperate app to transfer data onto them.

it integrates seamlessly with itunes.

it has a lot of features the zen doesn't have (like the games, the rolling through songs with sound)

and the buttons are on the front. the zen's are on the side.

etc etc.

you'll be happy with an ipod.

    • This Dell 27 inch 4K 120Hz IPS monitor is really cheap after a very long time by Sayan Sen Recently we covered a really good deal on an AMD RX 9070 three-fan model that's available at slightly above its MSRP. If you are looking for a GPU for 1440p gaming that's around the performance of the Nvidia RTX 5070 you should most definitely check it out. Let's say that you are looking for a monitor to pair that up with too. The Samsung 49" G9 curved QD-OLED superultrawide is a good option that can provide an immersive experience. However despite being a very good deal currently (at $855), it may seem unaffordable to you, or you may simply not want to spend as much on a monitor. In that case Dell's S2725QS can be a very good option as it's on sale at the moment for its lowest price in over six months (purchase link under the specs table down below). The big highlight of the Dell S2725QS is its 27-inch IPS panel with a 3840 x 2160 (4K UHD) resolution, offering a high pixel density that can make text appear sharper while also providing plenty of screen space for productivity and media consumption. The display supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz through both HDMI and DisplayPort, making it suitable not only for everyday desktop use but also for smoother gaming and scrolling. AMD FreeSync Premium support is included as well, helping reduce screen tearing during gaming sessions. The screen has fairly good brightness and color accuracy so you can use it for general work purpose, though photo/video editing is probably not going to be the best match for this. The technical specs of the Dell S2725QS are given in the table below: Specification Value Viewable Screen Size 27 in (68.58 cm) Screen Mode 4K UHD Maximum Resolution 3840 × 2160 Maximum Preset Resolution 3840 × 2160 @ 120 Hz Standard Refresh Rate 120 Hz Panel Technology In-plane Switching (IPS) Backlight Technology LED Edgelight System Pixel Density 163 PPI Response Time 8 ms GTG, 5 ms GTG, 4 ms GTG Horizontal Viewing Angle 178° Vertical Viewing Angle 178° Brightness 350 cd/m² (nits) Native Contrast Ratio 1500:1 Color Support 1.07 Billion Colors Color Gamut 99% sRGB (CIE 1931) Adaptive Sync AMD FreeSync Premium HDCP Support Yes Mount Type Panel Mount VESA Mount 100 × 100 mm Maximum Height Adjustment 13 cm Tilt -5° to 21° Swivel -30° to 30° Pivot ±90° Stand Adjustments Tilt, Swivel, Height, Pivot Glass Hardness 3H Horizontal Frequency 27–270 kHz (DisplayPort 1.4 / HDMI 2.1) Vertical Frequency 48–120 Hz (DisplayPort 1.4 / HDMI 2.1) Video Inputs 2 × HDMI 2.1 (HDCP 1.4 & 2.3), 1 × DisplayPort 1.4 (HDCP 1.4 & 2.3) Operating Temperature 0°C to 40°C Storage Temperature -20°C to 60°C Operating Humidity 10%–80% (Non-condensing) Storage Humidity 5%–95% (Non-condensing) Get it at the link below: Dell S2725QS 27-inch 4K 120Hz IPS monitor: $218.49 (Sold and Shipped by Amazon US) (Was: $280) Good to know This Amazon deal is U.S. specific, and not available in other regions unless specified.
