ok, it's vent time...

The next time anyone suggests holding a major event in the Fleet Center, they need to be muzzled, shot, whatever phrase you wish!

Granted, the Fleet is like 100 yards from I93, but there's a perfectly good convention center in South Boston, all new, shiney etc.

But it's too late now, the DNC mess is here :(

We now have one heck of a traffic mess with I93 being closed during the evening...

State troopers, dressed in black, stopping every moving truck and van that they think is a "risk" going in and out of Boston - thus slowing traffic down as we all gawk at the mess!

I for one will be glad when the democrats leave Boston on Thursday night, good riddins and thanks a bunch for screwing up lots of people's lives...

I agree.

The shutdown of 93 is a major headache. I am avoiding Boston at all costs.

I had a doctor's appointment there, for some experimental treatment on my cancer, and I had to cancel, thanks to the DNC. Traffic is a nightmare.

However, it's gotta be held somewhere. However, the FleetCenter is smack in the middle of everything!

Yeah, chill out, it's only a few days. I live in Seattle, WA. We have to deal with MAJOR traffic problems everyday, because of sports games in our new stadiums that are right next to the main non-freeway arterial into downtown Seattle. Freeways are ALWAYS jammed during the week. So if us people in Seattle need to live with this everday, you can live with traffic hell for a few days.

Sorry to be a stickler, but Boo-fuking-hoo!

Try living on Oahu in Hawaii, where there is 3 freeways that merge into one to get into downtown Honolulu. Or, how about Los Angeles, where there is traffic for no damn reason at no particular time?

Maybe you Bostonians should learn the meaning of ALTERNATE travel. The Bay Area can have some pretty sick traffic at times, but if you're smart and plan ahead, you can avoid a good part of it.

On a side note to the DNC, I find it hilarious and really sad that they are fortifying Boston like a damn military base for these sorry ******s, yet they can't find a way to protect everyday citizens. Everytime I see this thing on the news it makes me sick.

You grow up. Many business's are closing for the time because the city is virtually shut down. If you die the hearses can't take you away for security reasons.

Who are the idiots that okayed that planning?

So if us people in Seattle need to live with this everday

If its an all time event then it should have been planned for. The DNC is a one time event which

wouldn't have been so bad if it weren't for security concerns. There is a big difference between "heavy" traffic and no traffic.

jaccod

ALTERNATE travel

If you want to get into Boston you can't, it is closed. Not heavey traffic...no traffic. There are no alternate routes. Believe we know about heavey traffic. The "Big Dig" didn't help to alleviate it.

The original idea still stands. Chill out, you'll get over it. There isn't any reason to bring it up on this forum. Everyone has to deal with some crap they can't stand. Yet do you see everyone bringing there issues up on this forum and that is because we have better things to do and we all know we'll get past it. Like I said there isn't any reason for you to bring it up on this forum. Get over it.

Seattle traffic is nasty, but we live with it. We have a good bus system and simple commuter rail, but the liberals here are killing any effort for true mass transit.

The conventionis part of our process. The extra guards are necessary to assist in the prevention of any violence. Live with it - its only 1 week.

Okay I must retract my prior post. I forgot construction on the main artery was incomplete.

Idiots for planning that. It must have been demanded by Kerry

No, but thanks for trying. It was demanded by Menino. He consistently stated Boston could handle the influx of people, and wanted to make Boston look like a viable large city for future events.

Or maybe it wasn't Menino, maybe it was everyone trying to take orders from Mayor Mumbles who got it wrong. Either way, I wouldn't be in town this week if I could avoid it.

the convention didn't pop up over night - it's been planned for over a year. you COULD have planned to be out of town this week

leave your town, the democrats are coming to visit. i mean, come on, why are people's lives being inconvienced for a convention. The RNC isn't going to close many business unlike the DNC which closed almost all businesses around it. The RNC is going to help business, not hurt it, and trains wil still run (though more secure), but daily NY will continue. Unlike in boston.

Never been to Boston, have you? It's about 1/100 the size of New York. Plus, let's see how the RNC turns out, ok? My guess is they'll be just as many people complaining.

    • Excuse me for having an opinion, fella'... (Why am I not surprised?...) Congrats on your very informative post however...
    • By the sounds of that wall of Fox News propaganda gibberish attacking the Democratic Party you've already had plenty of "juices" flowing this morning. You've ruined what could have been a productive comment thread.
    • (Topic to get the juices flowing this Sunday morning!...) Actually, the situation has almost nothing to do with "lack of skills", especially since assembly-line skills can be taught to anyone, including Americans, certainly. Rather, the inadequacy-to-impossibility of large-scale tech manufacturing in America today, and the reasons why America finds tech manufacturing completely onerous in the 21st century, has to do with politically driven laws amid a plethora of non-scientific, utterly politicized "science-fact" that is patently false, punitive business taxation at every turn, an array of judicial fines of unimaginable scope and complexity, and, last but not least, American unionization strictures that serve to actually slay job creation and hobble all such manufacturing endeavors in America before they can get off the ground. Globalism emerged, they tell us, as the needed answer to American hubris and an unholy American drive to excel. Unless one is buried under mounds of political propaganda, it's easy to see the absurdity of labeling the employees of SpaceX, for instance, as "unskilled labor"... Etc. ad infinitum. At one time in the recent past, American manufacturing prowess was the envy of the world in a wide variety of technical fields! The current federal and state government roadblocks against America becoming competitive globally in tech manufacturing are considerable, it's true, as anyone with a working brain knows. But remarkably, that is only half the story! The other half of the story is, of course, the corporations themselves... Chinese tech manufacturing is simply unassailable in terms of profits, because the Chinese government wants to see its tech manufacturing second-to-none globally so that no companies/nations can compete in terms of ROI, and China has completely succeeded in that goal. Let's tic-off a few things: *Chinese tariff policies are set according to what is considered best for Chinese business, Chinese employees, and the Chinese people. Huge difference with how things are done with tariffs in the US--as the US government (SCOTUS in this case, Congress in others) plainly feels that tariffs are "unfair" for the limited number of citizens who may pay them, whereas nothing is "unfair" when Congress considers the Personal Income Tax rates to be infinitely hike-able, along with infinitely enlarging annual budget deficits. *The Chinese government boldly subsidizes Chinese companies to artificially amplify their profits. *The Chinese government deliberately refuses to avidly demonize Chinese businesses and does not consider Chinese businesses "the enemy", so very unlike American (D)s these days. *Chinese labor laws and businesses are allowed to set their own labor policies according to what Chinese companies consider is best for companies and their employees... Simply put, American workers in tech manufacturing are not allowed to set their own labor policies! It is the height of hypocrisy for Americans to decry working conditions in China while simultaneously ensuring that American products are manufactured in China, not in the US, simply to maximize profits. There is nothing wrong with making a profit, of course, absolutely nothing. But there is plenty wrong with attempts to normalize hypocrisy of this kind! But rank hypocrisy and the (D) party in the US are longtime bedfellows... The current government in Washington is working overtime to see if it can toss out the horribly poor, failed economic policies of the past, while the (D)s still in Washington work very hard to bring back the stupidity whenever possible. With the right policies in place, America can be an infinitely competitive manufacturer.
