Faster computer? but 3dmark06 not better?

Recommended Posts

Hello. Perhaps you can help me understand a lack of performance improvement. I have 2 computers. The first has Win2000 and Athlon XP 2500 with ATI Radeon x700 AGP video and 1 meg ram. I got a 3dmark06 score of 1350. I then buildt what I thought should be a faster computer with WinXP, ATI dual core 4200 CPU, ATI x1300 PCI-e video and 1 meg ram. But the 3dmark06 score was essentially the same at 1390. What gives?

try installing the latest ati drivers, also install the dualcore hotfix for windows xp from microsoft, and make sure uve got service pack 2 installed

Yes I installed the dual core optimizer and latest ati video drivers, but 3dmarko6 was unchanged. SP2 was not yet installed.

P.S. I also tried overclocking 10% but 3dmark06 only increased 1% to 1405.

The card _is_ worse in your new pc. Lower memory clock, and less pipes and less transfer speed.

Ah, so basically the faster computer only compensated for a slower video card?

ugh i hate ATI's number scheme... they make you think the higher the number the better/newer... kinda like nvidia's 7300 isnt as goot as a 6800 stuff...

Since the ATI x1300 card apparentluy isn't so good, can you recommend a good video card under $100? Thanks in advance

The video card is something like >85% of the score.

The x700 don't have Shader Model 3.0 so it don't pass all the tests

A card under $100? A 8500GT maybe.

Still, it won't super perform. But I think you will get 2000.

a 7900GT might be had for $100, or a 7900GS, I get about 5600-5800 3D Marks with a very similar processor (2.5ghz), but I also have 2GB memory.

found one a GS for 106 after rebate including shipping. http://shop4.outpost.com/product/4970851

Dont Hate kuz I post rebate deals, they're hot if they're hot and meet or exceed your needs :)

    • draw.io Desktop 30.2.6 by Razvan Serea draw.io desktop is a downloadable security-first diagramming application that runs on Windows, MacOS and Linux. Creating diagrams in the desktop app doesn’t need an internet connection. This is useful when you are disconnected or when you must create diagrams in a highly secure environment, where data protection is of the utmost importance. When you use the draw.io desktop app, your diagrams will be stored on your local device. Because this is a stand-alone application, also designed to run offline, there are no interfaces to cloud storage platforms available. Of course, you can still store your diagrams in folders that are synchronised to your cloud storage if you wish. Easy-to-use diagram editor The draw.io apps work just like the office and drawing tools you are used to using. Drag and drop shapes from the shape libraries and drag to draw connectors between them. Drag connectors to add waypoints and set a precise shape and position, or let them reroute automatically. Double click and start typing to add a label to anything. Create tables and swimlane flows with a familiar tool. Style shapes and connectors with customisable palettes, sketch options, fonts and text formatting tools. Search for shapes, including in open-source icon libraries. Use our vast libraries of shapes and templates, organised into logical categories, to create a range of diagrams and infographics. Generate diagrams from text descriptions using our smart templates. Diagram faster with keyboard shortcuts. draw.io Desktop 30.2.6 changelog: Uses electron 42.5.0 #2452 Updates to draw.io core 30.2.6.
