I've asked him to do a port from LE 5.1 Black as well to make it complete :)

Here's are links to go directly to the visual styles:

Nice! Good job on those...I've switched to vista myself as well. I was using this same exact theme on windows xp sp3 previously.... :D

How? I have TuneUp Utilities but can't find such an option.

Hi FrozenEclipse,

it is easy.

First select the MS Vista aero style without useing Tuneup. Aero should be active. Then start the TuneUp Styler and select Luna Element. That is it.

Some elements don't style in aero perfect (the startmenu and the window buttons). But it is ok.

I downloaded the file on my vista pc (32bit) and put it in C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes

but it doesn't show up under theme's when I right click the desktop and go to personalize...just wondering. I noticed most my other themes have a "Windows Theme" file, this one does not...it only has the VS file, and shell folder like the other visual styles come with.

You first have to patch the three files uxtheme.dll;themeui.dll and shsvcs.dll before you can see the styles

Wow, I'm going to have to try this out! It looks a superb port!

@Lyric: as -=[ViPeR1973]=- has said, you'll need to patch those files, but you should also run DeskHack so that the theme will show up properly under Appearance Settings.

That wasn't the problem that I was having...I am currently using a different theme atm that I copied into the C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes folder, its that this download didnt come with a .theme file....it only comes with the Visual style file / shell folder. Most of the other themes I have you place a theme file (.msstyles) outside of the named VS folder and it works. Nothing is showing up under Appearance settings for Luna Element Black.

Have you tried installing DeskHack 1.1 ? Then the style is showing up under its own name in Appearance..

The WE Black doesn't come with a .theme file so can not see it in the themes. Only under Desktop Appeareance and Color.

Under C:\Windows\Resources\Themes you mus add a WE Black folder and in that folder you have to place the .msstyles file

All of my Vista Basic Ports will show up with their own name, and not a generic one.

How can you port MSSTYLES into Vista? Is there a program that will allow you to do it? I wish TGT Soft would release a Stylebuilder for Vista!

Go ahead and try Vista Style Builder.

What are the exact benefits if i use the theme this way? min-maximize animations etc.? Or are there more things better in aero mode..

The Luna Element ports are meant to be used without Aero. Satukoro can't make a Luna Element which makes full use of Aero since that means he has to make a new Luna Element. The only person who'll do that is em3, since he's the artist from the whole series.

Actually, having found a decent way to port to Aero, I plan on reporting my favorite themes. Also, you're incorrect, I won't have to recreate anything, just accommodate what has already been created.

In short, I'll be porting:

Luna ( Blue, Metallic, Olive )

Luna Elements 5.1 ( Blue/Black )

Royale ( Blue, Noir, Zune )

and Ambient ( mainly because my first attempt was a bit lacking )

After these are ported, I'll ask which themes people want ported most.

    • Linux 7.2's first release candidate gets off to a good start by Paul Hill Credit: Larry Ewing It has been a few weeks since the release of Linux 7.1, and in that time, the Linux 7.2 merge window has been open, where developers can submit their features and patches ready for the upcoming release. That window is now shut, and the release candidate phase has begun so that new features can be tested and further fixes applied. According to the founder of Linux, Linus Torvalds, this week’s release candidate looks “reasonably normal”. Although we are super early in the release candidates, this is a good sign as it makes it more likely that an eighth release candidate will not be needed. Torvalds even mentioned that the update’s stats are only larger than they really are because there was another AMD header drop with a third of the patch just being AMD GPU register definitions, which aren’t big changes but make the code contributed look larger overall. In addition to this, he noted that just over half the patch is drivers, even when excluding the AMD register dump. The rest of the changes are spread out over architecture updates, tooling, documentation, and core kernel updates. In the next week, Torvalds says that he will be chilling out, taking the week “mostly off”. Despite this, he will be reading emails and keeping up with things, so if he is slow responding, now you know why. He said he is hoping for a calm week, but we will just have to see if the second release candidate is actually like that. We should expect seven or eight release candidates before Linux 7.2 is released, so expect it around the end of August. If you missed it a few weeks ago, be sure to check out our coverage of Linux 7.1's release.
