Problem installing UAA Driver from Microsoft

I recently aquired a nc6400 through my work and I installed a OEM Version of Windows XP PRO. It took a while but I downloaded all the updated drivers and slipstreamed the controller drivers onto my Windows XP cd.

I have found all the drivers (even got the Bluetooth to work) but I can't get the sound to work.

I know for this model you need to install the Microsoft UAA HD driver. I tried the version listed for my laptop and a few other versions and I have not gotten anywhere.

When the setup runs a screen with the following message shows up.

"Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for HD Audio Setup is preparingthe installshield , which will guide you through the rest of the setup process."

After it dissapears I get nothing. If I try and install the actual sound driver I get the following error message.

"The HDA Audio bus driver is required and not found"

Any ideas? HP is clueless and wants me to reinstall my OS.

I'm assuming your HP laptop has Realtek audio? If so, my VAIO requires the Microsoft UAA HD driver before the soundcard can be installed.

Can you extract the drivers from the installer manually?

Sometimes Winrar can open either related cab files, or extract them from the installer's exe.

Not sure how reliable this would be with the UAA stuff though.

After installing the file Radish sent me and a little bit of driver fanagling inside the Device Manager my sound card is now working.

Could you tell me what you did withing Device Manager to get it working? I have a Compaq NX 7400 and am faced with the exact same scenario you had prior to Radish lending a helping hand.

If the install for this vanishes, you need to DELETE the registry entry @ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP\SP3\KB888111WXPSP2

Once that is deleted then you can reinstall without it just flashing on the screen. It MIGHT not contain the wxpsp2 part at the end, but it is KB888111

Okay, I as well have gotten immense problems with the stupid UAA etc. I've been working to get my audio to work for 12 hours now and I'm getting to the point of throwing the computer out the window. Okay.

First, thanks to Radish for welcoming me and being nice. ^^

My motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3 Rev 2.0

I have tried to install the drivers from the disc which came with the motherboard, but with no luck. I have downloaded the latest drivers from Gigabyte's website, no luck. I have tried downloaded the latest driverpack, with both UAA and soundcard drivers from RealTek's site, no luck.

I am currently downloading another driver package from RealTek which was linked in some other forums, and will try that tomorrow when I wake up.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, I'm getting really frustrated. I will go to bed know, return in the morning. Thanks once again.

Right, remove all the audio drivers you have installed (including the UAA hotfix). Restart your computer.

Next, get the drivers from this link under the Audio section - http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherb...?ProductID=2627

Select - "Realtek Function driver for Realtek Azalia audio chip (Including Microsoft UAA Driver in English edition)"

Download it to your desktop > extract it to a folder using WinRAR or Universal Extractor > run the Setup.exe from the main folder > halfway through the setup it should extract the UAA driver and install it and notify you by the clock that an "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus" has been found > at this point it may ask for the WDM drivers (point it to the WDM folder from the audio drivers you extracted) or it may automatically install them for you > restart the computer when asked.

Also in your BIOS, check to see if you have an option for what type of audio you have enabled - it could be AC97 or HD Audio (it needs to be HD Audio).

If all goes well, you should have sound (Y)

The only BIOS setting I can find that involves audio is "Azalia Codec:" [auto] or [disabled]. I'm guessing it should be on auto.

Update: I have now tried doing exactly as you said, but with no luck. The RealTek audio driver gets installed, but the UAA just wont show up anywhere, it's not in Add/Remove Programs, and it's not in Device manager.

I've tried multiple different UAA installers, both bundled with audio drivers and separate. The last UAA driver was the one I downloaded from the motherboard FAQ-site (http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/FAQ_Model.aspx?FAQID=2501). Then it actually show up in Add/Remove Programs, but it isn't to be found elsewhere, and it certainly doesn't give me any sound...

Update 2: Uninstalling everything, as well as deleting the registry key mentioned above. And installing the Azalia-package from Gigabyte's website doesn't do anything. Windows fail to find the UAA Bus. I'm starting to think that this is hardware related... great...

I had the exact same problem and after two days of trying to install the correct drivers I finally got the sound card working on a HP DV6500 pavilion. This is how I solved the problem.

1. Download and install the Microsoft UAA High Defnition driver from the HP website.

2. Restart

3. Since I didn?t receive the notification "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus" I had to go to the device manager and under System devices I had to right click the PCI device with the yellow ! sign and select update driver. From there I selected automatic detection and waited till it was found. This time the yellow ! sign was replaced by Microsoft UAA bus Driver for High Defintion Audio.

4. Next download and install the Realtek High Definition Audio Codec

5. Restart

6. Finally download and install the Conexant High Definition Audio Driver available from the HP website. However I had some problems since the media couldn?t be found but I restarted and the sound worke:):)

7. so restart once more and hopefully you will have sound.

I guess this may be different from what type of laptop or system you are using. I never thought this would be so much problem when I decided to downgrade to XP because Vista is too unstable.

I have the same motherboard as peipei and I tried everything you wrote in here but I have one (small?) problem - I cant uninstall UAA from 'system devices' because it says 'device is needed to boot' (translated from polish) I tried to uninstall it in the safe mode after disabling the device in normal xp and it didnt work too. any ideas?

edit: my motherboard is GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L/S3L (rewritten from manual)

and one more question: will format with reinstalling winxp help?
