Need to competely eliminate taskbar

I use RK launcher, and I need a way to completely eliminate the taskbar.

I. Something which shows minimized programs.(RKL does this)

2. Something which shows running programs(is this possible, if not, then how is it handled in macs?

3. System Tray

4. 'All Programs' Option(Either only all programs coming up when I click on a particular Icon on the dock or even the whole start menu coming up)

5. In macs, the dock autohides? Or is it permanently on top with the screen's bottom reserved for the dock(like windows taskbar)

6. Any of you guys used Emerge Desktop? Any comments?

I am willing to download/buy any new program and change the dock program.

One last question, I saw that there is a small transparent bar at the top of mac desktops. What is the purpose??

Hello, I'm not sure if I can answer most of these questions, but I can answer #3 and #4 in bold for you.

For #3:

For a system tray replacement, there's a programme called TrayModule, located at this link:

It is a floating system tray that you can position anywhere on your desktop and it can hold your existing system tray icons, assuming you use a shell other than Explorer as I believe Explorer will intercept these icons which will cause them to not show up in TrayModule, I could be wrong and I wouldn't know as I have Progman set as my shell.

For #4:

There exists a programme called Traybar, located at this link:

Pretty similar perhaps, but may not be quite what you're looking for. Traybar sits in your system tray as a system tray icon that you can use to pull up a menu that you can customize to suit your needs, and you can customize Traybar's system tray icon with an .ico file of your choice. Default menu behaviour is 'Mouse Over', which doesn't work correctly when used with TrayModule, you'll need to change the behaviour to 'Right click' or a different behaviour with Explorer set as your shell, or I can send you my copy of Traybar that's been preconfigured to work correctly with TrayModule. If you would like a copy of my preconfigured Traybar setup, feel free to ask me in this thread. Though, there may be other programmes like Traybar that I'm not aware of.

For a start menu type docklet, you can try this startmenu docklet, located at:

To have a system tray as a docklet, you'll want to download 'TrayFish', which can be found at:

Some answers to your other questions:

The dock is by default always on top, and so applications maximise above or beside it. You can set it to autohide.

The top bar is the menu bar, it has the Apple menu (shutdown/restart/logoff, about mac, system preferences...) and the application's menus. With Windows, every application has it's own menu bar attached to the application. In MacOS each application has it's menu at the top of the screen. In the new MacOS X Leopard this menu bar is transparent by default.
