Ford Australia - Shutting their plants

Recommended Posts

A really, really sad day today for Australian cars, with Ford Australia set to close its assembly plant and engine plant to be shut down.

FORD Australia is set to drop a bombshell on the car industry this morning. It is expected to announce the closure of its Broadmeadows car factory and its Geelong engine plant.

The struggling car-maker has sent out a media alert about an impending announcement later this morning, believed to be 10.45am.

Ford was due to release its financial results today but News Limited has been told the media conference is about "more than that".

Confidential sources say that Ford Australia will become an import-only brand. It is unclear when the factories will close but Ford was due to introduce a facelifted Falcon and Territory next year.

This will no doubt trigger some flow on effects for the Commodore, and most probably it's demise.

Soon, the only cars build here will be GM Korean junk (Cruze). They're going to be selling the Malibu too, which uses just as much fuel as the Commodore V6, which is the very reason they won't sell. People are worried about fuel costs, even with the cars having pretty decent fuel rating. My Falcon is around 10l/100km in city driving.

Really sad day, the Falcon is part of Australia's history.
