It won't, Sony have said it wont be as expensive as PS3 was at launch. There is no crazy custom CPU in this, apart from the modifications they made its a pretty much off the shelf APU very similar to the one in Xbox.

I suspect $399 at launch for both the PS3 and XBox 360 standard models, they will be the same price for sure for competitive purposes. Plus they make their money back up on the games, that's how this "game" works... Can't sell games if people can't afford your console/hardware

Gotta remember those are retail prices. 8GB of DD3 RAM probably cost like $20 for MS. 8 Core AMD CPU/GPU is probably like $20 or less too especially when buying in stacks of MILLIONS. LOL
