capr
can you recommend a good dual band AC receiver? I prefer having that usb dongle format, I assume USB 3 isn't really necessary but nice to have? price isn't an issue, I just want something good. I was looking at this asus one but it's like the Only good option so i am worried I am missing something.

+BudMan MVC Posted September 16, 2014 MVC Share Posted September 16, 2014 The marketing is just crap!! "Up to 1300 Mbps, 802.11AC (867Mbps over 5G) + 802.11N (400Mbps over 2.4G)" So this is dual band adapter? Lets you connect at 5G and 2.4 at the same time?? Yeah right ;) Also your not getting 867 with that 1 external antenna ;) It might have 2 internal - but if using the external your going to be limited to 1 stream so no 867 Just give us the specification - do people really believe this nonsense? Tomo
You would want USB 3, USB 2 tops out at 480Mbps and wireless AC tops out at 1300Mbps
+BudMan MVC Posted September 16, 2014 MVC Share Posted September 16, 2014 Lets be clear 1300 is RAW marketing number, And you would need 3 streams to get that even. This card only has 2 internal, so the 867 RAW - lets call it /2 of that so your in more of a range of 450ish - which would be under the bandwidth of the usb2 in theory. But I am with you, you wouldn't want to have your usb connection be the possible bottle neck. It like routers that say their N can do 300 or 450, yet it only has 100mbit wired interfaces ;) WTF how you going to get 300 or even half 150 if you only have 100mbit lan intefaces.
