there's a cafe near me called Perkatory Cafe that offers free WiFi... they're not a chain or anything, but it's cool that they offer it.

If anyone is in the Gainesville, FL area, Oxford Cafe on 16th Ave (off University) has free WiFi... I also recommend the CooNooMooNoo shake... oh yeah.

i talked to a photojournalist who said he never pays for wifi. he says there are online repositories that index free hotspots all over the nation and he just checks the site for a hotspot in the area that he's staying.

Yeah, this is true at a lot of coffeehouses now, about 3 in my town, Bloomington-Normal, IL, have WiFi. Actually, lol, the funny thing is, I live about 150 feet from one, and I can actually access the WiFi network from my apartment, although the speed is ridiculously slow considering I'm at about the limit of the range.

wow, thats really neat if you can access that from yr own place... is there no way you can boost the signal? or rather.. boost the reception? it might be worthwhile investing in something that can do that :)

Most of campus has wireless... except the dorms, but that could be fixed with an antenna of some sort I suppose since it surrounds the buildings... really, the only thing you'd need wireless for in dorms is unrestricted downloading... the dorm network is faster but you can only use IRC effectively without being shutdown instantly (that I've figured out anyway, without a VPN). Search for ICARUS on google if you are interested. You should check out the following sites though
