Gospel
EDIT: There really isn't much of a difference. If price is way different, 865PE seems like it's almost the same. Their specs are the same but, as said above, PAT on the 875. The 875 *should* get higher performance. |

The performances difference between the two are almost unnoticable. It also depends largely on the motherboard manufacturer, some are better then others.

According to Intel, the i875 chipset was supposed to exclusively have PAT. However, many motherboard manufacturers who make boards based on the i865 chipset have more or less enabled this with a BIOS update.
According to Intel the two biggest differences between the i865 and i875 chipsets are the inclusion of PAT and support for ECC memory in the i875 chipset. I believe there may be others, but I'll leave that to xStainDx, who knows leaps and bounds more than I do about the two chipsets! |

Yes, the only difference is PAT and ECC support.

Yeah, 875 wasn't really produced for the low end market, it was for high end users demanding performance.

875 are the higher quality silicon northbridges. If they past Intel quality testing they're marked as 875 if they don't pass all the tests they were thrown into the 865 bin.
Thats how it works. |
