I have an HP Printer connected to my computer via a USB cable. When I had it hooked up to my machine when running Windows 2000, the hardware icon showed up in the taskbar, but then went away (if I remember correctly) very quickly while the printer was still hooked up. Bottom line: it didn't stick around.

On my XP machine, the icon stays in the taskbar for as long as my printer is hooked up. It's a very small annoyance, but an annoyance nonetheless. Currently I have it set up to hide all the time, but it's still there. I was wondering if anyone knew of a way that I could remove it from showing up while my printer maintains its connection to my computer.

Attached it a screenshot containing the icon I am referring to. If in order to obtain further info about the situtaion you may need more screenshots of other things, I'd be happy to post them. Thanks.

why does that little icon bother you soo much? I like that icon a lot becuase it tells you if a device is successfully connected to the machine or not. Without it, you can't really tell unless you tune up the speaker volume (to hear the confirmation sound) or actually have to open up programs to test devices.
