BET (Black Entertainment Television)

Recommended Posts

Today I was sitting down watching some TV. I was flipping through the channels and i landed on BET. I watched it for a little bit until I saw a screen that flickered the message, "Black Star Power". I was like, WTF.

First of all, isn't having a black only TV station a little discriminatory? Second, whats up with this "Black Star Power" message? How come BET can put this on TV? Lets just think here for a second. What if there was a TV station that was called, WET (White Entertainment Television). They would be hearing, "Thats racist" left and right. Now lets add a white screen flickering the phrase, "White Star Power" and see what happens then. There would be TONS people complaining about it.

I just don't understand. How can BET put this on TV and not hear anything.

P.S. I am not racist at all. I just don't understand this.

I love this channel..

nun wrong with callin it "Black Entertainment Television" its just because it has all Rap n RnB vidoes so its black music basically..

about the black power thing, i unno..

That's really funny...

I almost got in a fight just a couple weeks ago because I referred to someone as being "black"...

I wasn't using it as a derogatory term or anything...

Interesting.

Wow, u must be young. BET has been a staple of the black community for years. I remember watching it when they had only half a day of programming. BET isn't the only African-American television station, and what about the Hispanic and other ethnic television network stations? Remember America home of the free. We are a nation made up of many ethnic backgrounds as one, that's what makes us so great. With so much negativity in the Black community, BET has been an outlet for many. "Black Star Power" is meant to show those who feel that all is lost that there is world for intelligent, positive African-Americans. Only recently has the network begun to stray away from this concept (ti##y, bootie shaking). Oh and by the way, FYI, BET is an subsidiary of Viacom, which in turn owns MTV, MTV2, VH1, Nickelodeon, etc.

Just something for u to chew on. :)

-u know, u can just say what u said now without quoting my post..

they have latin tv stations too ya know? its just allowing other cultures to have they space in the media. i mean not to sound like im stereotyping but most if not all tv stations are owned by white america. i do believe that BET is the ONLY cable station that is owned by an african-american. and it caters to the black audience just like latin tv caters to the latin audience. same thing for russian and japanese channels. i can understand that seeing the words "black star power" would make you think its just as racists as having a WET but its not meant to cause an uprising or a to "squash the oppressor." and yeah it would be thought as racist to have white star power but hollywood is driven by white stars as a whole anyway.

edit: i guess is not owned by a black person but the new owner of the charlotte bobcats is definitely the CEO. I thought he owned it but maybe they "sold out to the man" lmao j/k.

edit2: robert johnson founded it and is ceo. he did sell it to viacom a few years back.

But think of what would happen if you put White Star Power on a TV station just like i said. People would go apesh!t!!!!!

Remember, Hollywood has been white dominiated for decades now. There's no need to state white star power because it's obvious. Look at the Oscars, Halle Berry got hers for playing a crack ###### while getting dug out by Harry Connick Jr., Denzel got his for being a crooked cop. Before that u had Dorothy Dandridge and Harry Belfonte. Wow 4 over the course for how many years?

she wasnt a crack ###### nor was it harry connick jr.

she was a single mom with the father on death row being excuted by the man that "dug her out" billy bob thornton.

"Black Star Power" is just there marketing term used to promote their programming (i think their movies in particular). This is not met to be discriminatory or derogatory. BET has programming that appeals to Black Culture. Its not met to put down other races or cultures. And if you actually watched the channel you would know its more than music videos.

Regular programming on NBC or ABC usually does not appeal to black people or people in urban environments, which is why the channel was invented (which btw is owned by Viacom). BET is not met to act as a replacement to "regular" programming, but perhaps as a supplement.

The black power thing ... I think you misinterpreted the message. Most African Americans strive for equality, not separation.

As far as getting in trouble for calling someone "black" .. it all depends who it was used and how it was said. Perhaps you can off wrong and the other person got offended. If you didn't mean it in a offensive way, it might of been easier to say "i didn't mean it in a disrespectful matter as opposed to arguing about it." Wither you were wrong or right, the other person was offended.

most of the shows that cbs, nbc, abc, and fox broadcast are aimed at white males and most of the people on those shows are white males. that is their "white star power" and it's not gonna change. bet has their black oriented programming with black hosts, black acts - their "black star power." it's the same with we and oxygen; their programming is aimed a women. people have to go SOMEWHERE if they want to see something that the broadcast networks won't show.

I'm pretty sure the only group that's not allowed to discriminate is the white male. It's the same thing at school here. We have latin-american clubs (their chant "latino pride" kinda reminds me of "white power"), black clubs, but never anything for white people because hey, white people are just baaaad.

Thats the stuff i'm getting at here. Why is it that if we have a "White Club" that all other races call us racist and discriminatory but they can have their own clubs?

    • Lol I had one of these turn faulty in Jan, guess it wasn't just bad luck lol
    • I'm team Rossmann all the way. I have the exact same NVME, altough not in an array like him.
    • It had gone weeks ago. Although thinking about it I'm on the beta.
    • They thought value of their goods would forever only drop like it used to and didn't account for sudden increase in price because of all the Ai hype. Tough luck Samsung, don't try to weasel this one out. Also American customer protection laws are a**. In Europe, you need to be compensated for a functioning product of same or better characteristics (not same price point as when it was originally bought!) if it can't be repaired and when you receive a replacement product your warranty starts from scratch because you received a different item than you previously had and old warranty thus cannot apply to it anymore. If your actual item was successfully repaired, warranty gets extended for the period the item was in service. If item is repaired to a significant extent, warranty also starts over from scratch because major part of it was replaced. Americans need to fight to get this kind of consumer protections because they are constantly getting screwed over.
    • Microsoft releases new Windows 11 Media Creation Tool with the latest updates by Taras Buria Patch Tuesday updates arrive every month, bringing users new features and security updates. To make sure customers have access to the most recent images, Microsoft also releases updates to the Media Creation Tool app, its official utility for Windows 11 installation. Today, the company pushed new ISOs to Media Creation Tool, allowing you to create images with the June 2026 Patch Tuesday updates. With the latest update, the Media Creation Tool now downloads KB5094126. It is Windows 11 version 25H2, build 26200.8655, which is also available via Windows Update. Note that the app itself remains on the previous version, which you can check in Properties > Details. The only change is that it now downloads a more recent Windows 11 build, so the only way to check is to download an ISO. The June 2026 Patch Tuesday update is a special release for Windows 11, as it brings a new performance profile to make the operating system more responsive and snappier when rendering various user interface surfaces, including the Start menu, quick settings, and more. It does so by spiking processor speeds for a brief moment, resulting in higher loads for a second or two. The so-called “Low latency profile” is rolling out gradually, but you can force-enable it with the ViVeTool app. Other changes include webcam improvements, Task Manager updates, shared audio support, and more. You can download the Media Creation Tool app from the official Microsoft website using this link. Besides MCT, Microsoft lets you download Windows 11 ISO as a file directly from the official Windows 11 website. However, you will need a third-party app to write it to your USB drive. Check out this guide if you want to know how to do that.
