What kind of XP are you using. I get this message when I try to use my Dell OEM XP Pro CD (eng). I think its been reported, but havn't seen any update yet. (maybe wrong, I havn't looked for a few weeks).

<update>

Tried the new beta and it doesn't do this now, but still will not detect the OS.

Raptor,

Root:

%OEM% (folder)

DOCS (folder)

I386 (folder)

SUPPORT (folder)

VALUEADD (folder)

SETUP.EXE

+ a few other files.

I386 does not have UPDATES subfolder.

I did a full install last week (using the CD), only 1 user (me) who is administrator.

I have tested using full XP-Pro and Home (non OEM) and they both worked fine on both this machine and my other PC!

Really wierd...

If it is, its not like any other recover CD i've seen. Its label is XP_PRO_ENG and apart from the %OEM% folder, looks like any other XP disc I've looked at.

It autoruns straight to the XP install screen (no mention of Dell etc).

Maybe i'm wrong, but it sure looks like a standard XP disc.

What would be the decider on this?

What if I tried to install it onto a totally different machine? I have an old IBM laptop lying round I could test it on!

I just ran into the same runtime problem.

I have three partitions: C: D: E:.

I originally had the AutoStreamer.zip contents extracted to E: and that's when I was getting the runtime error. I redownloaded AutoStreamer.zip and this time it was in C:. This time, under C:, it worked perfectly but I still get the problem if I try it in E:

Don't know why :p Try it on a different drive or partition if you can.

Can you see other files which dont have an underscore at the end of their extension? i.e .DL_ etc? The fact it doesn't contained the packed files makes it very different from 'normal' XP CDs...

well... try this:

Start - Run and type:

assuming that you have SP2 file in C:\SP2\WINXPSP2_EN.EXE and you have copied the CD contents to C:\XPCD

"C:\SP2\WINXPSP2_EN.EXE" -s:"C:\XPCD" (with quotes)

Does it give you any errors?

This isn't exactly normal :D A load of hotfixes!!!

OK - you guessed - I get an error when trying to apply the SP to the copied files on my HD.

This Service Pack cannot be integrated into a destination that also has integrated Software Updates.

Which is wierd really cos after I did the clean install last week, I put SP2 over it no problems!

Thanks for your help Raptor - Guess i'll have to stick to the longer method in future :-)
