When Will ATI improve OpenGL?

I was reading a review the other day about the x800 series vs the 6800 series on Doom III, obviously Nvidia came out on top apparantly due to a much better OpenGL driver on the forceware. It also said that when(/if?) ATI improved its OpenGL driver it would keep up with Nvidia in Doom III. So does anybody know when ATI will improve its OpenGL driver?

Probably never, since Direct3D is their focus. But who knows.

They've already introduced their new OpenGL driver a while back, which improved performance. Nothing amazing though.

It must be that Nvidia cards are more suited to OpenGL than their ATI counterparts.

OpenGL isn't really the thing in gaming anymore. DX has proven it to be the top choice for durrect development so ATi focus's on that.

Is it Open GL or Direct x? Cuz what they are developing is called XNA but i'm pretty sure it is replacing DX

yeah it's replacing Direct X, but it is essentially Direct X with some extra stuff. it wont be that hard to incorporate to their cards.

cept when they do it they will be like "whoah teh uberz XNA supportz!!11"

I have always noted that NVidia cards are better at games than ATI...And I own an ATI.

You may try the optimized ones at www.techconnect.info they seem to improve a lot in my case!
