80GB hdd showing up as 30

I've never had this problem before, and I usually never thought it'd happen to me BUT.....

I bought this drive http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....-152-010&depa=1

and its supposed to be 80GBs but it only shows up as 30. There are no windows updates for my computer since I've done them all.

I've checked disk management and it shows the whole thing as 30gbs unallocated.

How do I solve this problem? is it the hard drive or the OS?

older bios/mobos only allow upto 30gb. uhm, i'd try a paritioning tool like partition magic to check..but i'm sure there's be alot more helpful responses soon :)

the first hard drive I have installed is a 60 GB HDD. One partition is 4 GBs and the second is like 56 GBs. The mobo isn't too old. I should check for a bios update.

Any other ideas? the more the merrier.

uhm, are you sure it's jumpered correctly?

Have you tried putting it in a different computer, to see if it does the same?

boy do I feel stupid right now..... :pinch: that could be it. Let me boot it back up and I'll edit this post.

Edit: nope. Changed the jumper and that didn't fix it. :crazy: There are several combinations for slave on this drive, let me try another.

ok, thanks insanekiwi, that fixed it. I found the right jumputer setting.

I actually didn't know that you could limit a drive's size with a jumper. thats crazy.
