iPod mini came badly prescratched

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I open up my iPod mini this morning and I was very excited because I have wanted one forever. And to my surprise the glue that was holding it down had come loose and it was shoved off to the side of the package where it could easily slide around during the shipping process. I thought nothing of it and immediatley opened it up and started charging it. About an hour later my cousin comes over and shows me her new mini. When I show her mine we discover that it is covered in white scuffs and scratches (like it has been scuffed and keyed relly bad). Her's is perfect and mine looks like it was used for a awhile in a pocket full of keys. Do you guys think apple will exchange this for me, or just try to tell me I did it in my day of ownership...I am going to the apple store tomorrow regardless, but I just wanted to know what I could expect. Thanks for listening to my rant. I am just shocked and very sad about my first experience owning an apple product.

Thanks for the quick replies. Yeah, I will call tomorrow morning and go into the store when they open, so hopefully everything will be fine :). My greatest fear is the parking lot at the mall. It takes like 1 hour to park during the holidays. So maybe I will have my dad just drop me off ;).

Was it purchased at an Apple store? Or was it purchased from somewhere like Best Buy where the sell open box items? My only guess would be the latter, since i've never heard of a brand new ipod looking like this.

My friend had recently purchased a 40GB iPod and it had a minor scratch on the chrome of the iPod. They were hesitant on replacing it, as it is a cosmetic defect that could be hard to prove that it came factory direct.

But after the speech of, "I appreciate the aesthetic value of my product and by proof I HAD JUST RECEIVED IT, I'd appreciate it that it be replaced with the product, of which I had paid for." Plus it was thier first true "Apple" purchase and they added that they were looking to become a long time, devoted customer as they had liked other peoples' experience with Macs, etc.... and all in all they got a new iPod.

It wasn't much hassle, you just had to let them know that you didn't cause it. (Which is your predicament. :))

My dad ordered it in the apple store. They were sold out of silver so they brought him to a computer and had him order it online while he was in the store. But since they had him do this, they turned me away at the store and told me I had to call apple care. So I called, waited on hold for over 45 minutes, and then was refered to the web address for having it replaced. Why the employees at the apple store couldn't refer me to the website in the first place is beyond me.

Probably because you more than likely know more about computers then they do...
