ipod all scratched up?

Since day 2, ive had my 4G ipod in its iSkin. took it out to clean it up a bit, and i noticed there were scrathces all around the wheel area, and a dent on the back... how did this happen? the LCD is in perfect condition, but everywhere else is scratched from hell...

If i go to resell then when the 5G comes out, will it decrease the value alot?

Search the news and so to keep you know what date the 5G is coming out and sell it right before it.
