+ Training Day CAR

Recommended Posts

Hey,

Well i'll be getting my G2 soon and i'll be finally able to drive, so I have to think about purchasing a car.

I've always Loved monte carlos, and Im pretty sure the car in Training day is a 79 Monte Carlo (can anyone confirm this?)

Well anyways I've been looking into things like air ride suspension and some 100 spoke rims, the only thing I don't really like about the car is the front end, so i was wondering if anyone had pictures of the car from the movie, or somewhere online I can go look at some.

If anyone has any input or suggestions feel free to post them here.

Also I was wondering, does insurance cover any extras you put onto your car (obviously you'll pay more, but do they offer this service?) i don't live in the greatest place and getting your car stolen isn't a unlikely thing here.

Thanks,

Mario

I think you are right on the year. i once looked for pictures of this exact car, and could not find them... Maybe you will be lucky enough to happen upon someone else who has seen it, as it was making car show rounds for a year or 2.

As for the suspension, I am almost entirely certain that the suspension on the car is hydraulics, as the immediate response when he hit the switch normally notes a hydraulic setup. Now, hydraulics require batteries, tanks, high pressure lines, pump, and hydraulic rams, all of which can add upwards to a ton to the frame weight of the car. Thus, I would suggest air suspension, as you noted. You'll want to spend the extra cash on a quiet pump, as most air ride pumps are loud, and in a car, you just can't have that. You'll also have a little lag in the setup, and if you want to do any quick suspension changes as in drop-lift-drop-lift, you'll want a large air tank, for the transitions to happen smoothly.

If you want a similar car, you could try the Impala's of the same era... Do a search for Ice Cube and Impala in Google, and you'll get extensive pictures of his Impala, which may give you ideas for the Monte Carlo.

As for insurance, yes, most insurance companies will add additional coverage for any extras, but they require pictures of the installed product (most insurance companies will do this for you) and estimated retail value, and when you are talking about $2k in rims, things start getting expensive for addtional coverage...

If you need any more help/thoughts about suspension or modifications, just ask, and I'll be more than happy to help.

pimpshiznid thanks for all the info. I'm looking around for a 1979 Monte Carlo in my area right now, hoping one pops up soon. I'm also looking for a good shop that can do what I need.

My next step is to find some kind of online community, i've seen them for all kinds of makes and models, so I was wondering if anyone knew of a online community for Monte Carlos, Chevy's or even lowriders.

A shop isn't required, and it can be fun, especially if you have a couple of friends to help ya. And, you'll probably be better off searching for a car on eBay motors, and driving to pick one up. Monte Carlos of that age are rare, and in Canada, I am sure they are even more rare...

If you want a online community, try http://www.layitlow.com/forums/

They have one of the larger member bases out there, and you could probably ask around on their forums for help finding others, and also finding a Monte Carlo.

Good luck!

first of all if you get ur G2 congrats. Now you will be looking at insurance and stuff let your parents figure that out for you. Then ahh yes.. the car. Well if you acutally got a car when you're like 16 or 17 or even 18 would be suprising. What I mean is how would you acutally afford it with your name registered as a first driver on it ( since you would be driving it only ). Another thing would be the cost of the car its self. I know a friend of mine recently brought a 240sx for $6,000. I knew that it was a rip off but anyway he bought it. Now he's been drifting it and his aligment is now screwed and his muffler just came off. So I"m just warning you bout the consequence you are goning to have to face. Good Luck .

Thanks, I just got a job at a well known Marketing Company in my area, so money won't be a problem. I will keep reserching everyhting up until the purchase of the car (if i can find one).

But until then, any advice is welcome.

My friend also just recently bought a 240sx he hasn't had any problems with it yet, but he hasnt done much racing or drifting.

I'm willing to drop quite a bit of coin to restore this car and get it in proper running order. and the insurance is really the only thing that's bothering me, i'll have to look into it, im sure it will put a hole in my wallet.

I'm 18 btw.

    • Wow, imagine you dump hundreds of hours into completing things and unlocking stuff and you lose it all. Back in the day when cheats were built into games, you could at least unlock things again that way without spending hundreds of hours again. But those days are long gone for some reason as no one builds cheats into games anymore. So it's even more painful that studio that's on its 6th installment **** it up so badly.
    • Spotify finally removes the disco ball app icon in the latest update by Ivan Jenic Image: Spotify Spotify has just released an update that removes its now infamous disco ball icon. The update reverts the app icon to the familiar flat green logo after weeks of mixed reactions online. The icon arrived on May 13 as part of the company's 20th anniversary celebration and was always intended to be temporary, though Spotify only confirmed that after the backlash started. The disco ball took the internet by storm, as the reception was split. A vocal group of users called it ugly and disorienting, with some iOS users noting that the 3D glowing effect made the app look like it was stuck mid-update. On the other end, the icon picked up a following of its own. Its retro, three-dimensional look immediately stood out against the flat, minimalist aesthetic that has dominated app design for years. It even started a small movement, spawning what people started calling "discomorphism," a mashup of disco and skeuomorphism. Other brands started posting disco ball versions of their own logos, probably in an effort to ride the wave of memes that flooded the internet during late May. Spotify has had a turbulent relationship with its user base lately. Besides the disco ball icon, which certainly wasn't appreciated by everyone, the company has also received backlash for its willingness to include AI-generated music on its platform. On May 17, Spotify promised the old icon would return “in a few weeks.” And now it looks like that time has finally arrived. So, whether you liked the disco ball or it made you uncomfortable, it’s now gone for good. The next time you update the Spotify app on your phone, the old, flat-design icon will return.
