Install a LiveCD onto HD - Is it possible

Recommended Posts

Hi, just a quick question, Is it possible for me to install Suse 9.3 64 LiveCD onto my HD as I would with a regular Distro ?

I have mounted the iso in XP and the dir structure is very differnet from that of a normal distro layout (with a few small files and a 1G+ IMG file.)

Any help would be great ...

Thanks ...

I'm not exactly a linux guru.... yet :) But I know certain Live distros you can install. Check the documentation on the cd or something or on Suse's website to see if it supports it.

I'm almost positive the livecd I tried (knoppix) can be installed to the HDD so I'm sure that you can install Suse somehow as well.

Sorry I can't give you any directions though as I've never tried it.

Yeah, it would be nice if you could, but no. Suse Live and Mandrake move are both designed to allow users to try the OS out, or need to use linux apps in a non-linux environment. Installing to HD is not possible, and I don't think anyone has come up with a downloadable script to allow you to install them.

But there are tons of really great Live cds you can install: why get stuck on Suse? Try PCLinuxOS (based on Mandrake), Mepis (Debian), Knoppix (Debian), or Kanotix (Debian) instead.

I know that alot of people I have seen have found ways for parts of your HD to act like a CD. Its illegal reasons they are doing it by of course by which I not mention but these programs are available. Its just how they are using them. In your case using a program like this would be perfectly legal. So perhaps you COULd do it.
