Adblock filter site

Question

Hi guys,

Just wanting to know what you think about this site i created. Its based around the Adblock extension for Mozilla Firefox. You're able to get the current list of filters, as well as submit your own (which i encourage you to do, as obviously the bigger the list, the more blanket coverage we have). I know there are a few other sites out there already that do this, such as www.geocities.com/pierceive/adblock, but i think mine is a bit more user-friendly than that one.

Anyway, check it out here:

Any comments/constructive criticism would good as well.

Cheers

It's a bit bright on the eyes ... :wacko: ... and it's a bit plain, but I like the general idea of the website. ;)

yeah, i've been thinking about both of those points. it took me like 30min max to create the visual side of the site, and i haven't done much on it since as i have mainly been working on the backend which works out new and sorts out filters. I will do something about it though :)

Edit: Grammar correction

Short_Rz, Take a look at my list, see what you think, its not as optimised as I wished, but its improving. I'm not sure what a "user friendly list" means, I'm no regex king, but the list does enough for my needs. Its a little larger than perceive's list, but covers more. Ads, popups, and general annoyances.

i didn't mean that the list itself was user friendly, i meant the site in general compared to pierceives (however you spell it).

as for your list mdew i like it. as you said it covers more than pierceives (and mine, im still working out regexps fully. once i do i'll do a lot more to keep the list shorter).

Just taking a quick look at your list,

http://ads.accelerator-media.com/*
http://ads.adsonar.com/*
http://ads.bidclix.com/*
http://ads.cgnetworks.com/*
http://ads.monster.com/*
http://ads.neowin.net/*
http://ads.osdn.com/*

can become

//ads\./

or to catch /ads. and /ad.

//ad(\.|s\.)/

*/Ads/*
*/ad/*
*/ad_image/*
*/adclient/*
*/adimage.php?*
*/adimages/*
*/adover/*
*/ads/*
*/adserv/*
*/adserver/*
*/adv/*
*/advert/*
*/advertise/*
*/advertisement.gif
*/advertising/*
*/adverts/*
*/advimg/*

could become (if i converted correctly)

//(ad(s|v|_?image|serv|vert|vimg|over|client)?)//

its coming, been making changes the past few days, using some more regex stuff, but it should be released within a week or so.

Short_Rz, sure, however my preference is too block adservers, trackers, stats etc, not to block individual files (since it would require alot of effort to keep current, and it'd make the list a little too bloated), I've released 005C, my first "stable" release with lots of new additions :) Its a little larger than 005B, but I've included some international adservers. Support for Adblock Plus makes it easier to sync with the list, and other cool features.
