Are they compatible with each other?  I thought you had to run MacDrive or something like that.

MacDrive is for using a Mac formatted hard drive connected to a Windows computer (physically connected). He is talking about networking the drives, which works without any additional software. I can't say why he can see the folders but not the files though (permissions problem maybe?).

hmm, i figured out that i can see files in the 'shared documents' folder on the windows pc just fine, but no other folders seem to work. the sharing config for all folders is exactly the same! i'm completely baffled

When you are connecting to the Windows PC, are you using a guest account or one of the user accounts on the Windows PC? It sounds like you are logging in as a guest.

I've gotten it to work.

I'm running Tiger on the Mac and 2k Pro on the server.

Just setup a file share in Windows (right click the folder you want to share and share the folder) ... make sure file and print sharing is installed.

Just name the 2k server Neowin or something. Say your Windows box is 192.168.1.6 ... Go to /etc/hosts on your mac and type in 192.168.1.6 Neowin.

When you want to conntec to the 2k Machine, hits Apple + K under finder . You'll get a pop-up.

Type in the following: smb://user:pass@Neowin.

Should work fine. If not, just replace Neowin with the IP.
