Registry hacks for Enabling AERO on VISTA 5744

Recommended Posts

Exactly.

We've heard this so many times now. If your card isnt supported, then live with it. If you want aero, upgrade your card.

As said, there IS a reason its unsupported.

For all those who can`t get Aero working with build 5744

1/ Ensure that you have the following registry value set to :

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM\Composition set to 1 (32-bit DWORD)

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM\CompositionPolicy set to 2 (32-bit DWORD)

2/ Restart DWM by opening a command prompt with administrative privileges :

- Type 'net stop uxsms'

- Then 'net start uxsms'

How are the results on non-DX9 systems (i have Riva TNT2 and i would be VERY surprised if aero works on that old rubbish!)

thanks for the registy hack .. but will non VISTA compatible graphic cards ( less than pixel shader 2.0 ) be able to force sero using this hack ?

has any one been able to do that using this hack ?

All im saying is that there's a reason your card's not supported. If your card doesnt support pixel shader 2.0, then how do you expect it to cope with the graphics? not very well.

But, I heard Aero will not run on machines with less than 1GB of RAM. I have a 6600 GT which should be capable of Aero, but only 512MB of RAM. so will this tweak enable Aero, and also will it run acceptably?

How do you open a command prompt with administrative privileges?

When I just open CMD and enter 'net stop/start uxsms' I get an System error 5, Access is denied.

Anyone know what to do?

^ C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CMD.exe rightclick Run As Admin...

Btw this "hack" doesn't work with my SIS 661 crap anybody got some driver simulating tweak thingys? And please don't think/say things like (there's a "reason" your card blablabla). I know it will slow down my laptop but I just want to see the glass fx on my 15.4TFT WXGA Crystal Brite screen! And yes it is possible because it worked a few beta's ago.

can anyone verify if this works with the Intel GMA 915?

It has Pixel Shader 2.0, just no WDDM drivers. If it works, I'll be buying Vista and adding a gig of ram to my computer. If not, I'm skipping the Vista upgrade.

WinMatrix.com

Enable Aero Glass

Regedit:

HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Windows/DWM/

Composition = 1

CompositionPolicy = 2

Right click Command Prompt and run as admin:

net stop uxsms

net start uxsms

Done! :windows:

First, welcome to WinMatrix FATSAC. Your first post was the best this year :)
