The end is nigh...

So its around 10/11pm Pacific Time 29 Jan 2007 yeah?

Close to 22 hours left until 9pm 30 Jan, Is that when we know if its all over? Loki vanishes from Microsoft, along with a large sum of cash, back to 42? ;P

Or is that just the "draw" for the prizes and stuff and the AMD meta puzzle could go on until someone figures it out, or untill we all give up in frustration? ;)

Yeah, 9pm is when the prizes are drawn...the Meta puzzle goes until the answer is figured out...

Well, it's 9:05 PM in California. I wish everyone the best of luck in the drawing!

And let's see if we can't finish the Meta puzzle too. :)

The Meta puzzle was recently solved by someone.....Anyone know who won?

After entering a really "Off The Wall" last effort guess, this time L.O.K.I says;

"To be fair, this contest is over and I've already awarded the prize. But please pay closer attention, try again, and help me reach my owr vanishing point.

-L.O.K.I.

My last real guess before that was: Lorelei, Odessa, Kara, Izola, but I tried "AMD Athlon 64 FX", and received that "you aren't on the right track, contest completed message."

Cg~

For those of you with ARG withdrawl, there is another game afoot. Not so much about puzzle solving....but rich with story potential and massive clues around.

The "rabbithole" is from a concert Tshirt.

It's all related to a new NiN (Nine Inch Nails) album to be released. Rumors are strong that the same company (42) is behind the online marketing campaign.

There is a great post here (a music forum) and a thread at uF (along with a chat room on the chat-solution.org server #yearzero).

Have fun :)

    • Close, but it is for any application starting, not just during boot time. In fact, it probably will not improve boot time at all because during a boot, the CPU is already boosting, so a pre-boost wouldn't change anything. I agree that it isn't exciting (especially considering every other OS already does it), but it is a good thing, even if they are just playing catch up.
    • Any so called performance increase will be in milliseconds, which nobody will actually notice in real world usage.
    • All it does is use the CPU more efficiently during boot to speed up boot times. That's it. Yawn....
    • It's not a one or the other kind of thing. Software should run efficiently, and the operating system should appropriately manage the CPU clocks. You could have the best most optimized software on earth, and it will still run faster if the CPU does a better job of boosting as needed. All this is doing is pre-boosting the CPU based on user actions, instead of waiting for the normal detection mechanism to kick in. If the OS knows it is about to need more CPU, why shouldn't it use that knowledge? It's the same idea of downshifting before passing someone, instead of just burying your foot into the peddle and waiting for the transmission to figure out what you want to do.
