[Official] How to get WMP to work with Firefox under Windows Vista

Recommended Posts

I can't get windows media files to play in firefox, for instance if i go to thatvideosite and try to view something it says i'm missing the plugin, and i don't know how to get it to install as firefox can't install the plugin and going to manual install doesn't do anything but take me to the windows media player site and i can't get it to work for nothing. Anyone have a solution?

Hmm that's weird. I had this problem under Vista and couldn't get it to work... but now it seems to have randomly fixed itself, but instead of opening up another instance of WMP (which IE did) it just implements the video into a new tab...

Here is the official fix for this by microsoft: http://port25.technet.com/pages/windows-me...n-download.aspx

Sorry to revive an old thread but I should say that the official fix doesn't work too well for me. One of the sites I had problems with was http://www.wrestlinggonewrong.com; all their videos are .wmv and with the official fix, the video is missing completely from the page, but the sound plays.

Thankfully, the fix from the second post sorted it all out. Thanks, bangbang023! :)
