because this list is for those migrating TO linux. if it was for those migrating TO windows then it would be the opposite. the apps in the windows list are examples, if you've used windows you most likely know what this program is and/or what it does. the ones in the linux list are not examples, they are giving a bunch of alternatives for you to try and since chances are the user isn't an experienced linux user they wont know alternatives if you gave them a short list on the linux side.

why are you even looking at this, that list hasn't been updated since 2007 ....

both linux and windows ... and the software for them have changed a lot since then

if your looking for linux software either look at the built in software center or go to getdeb.net

@ the OP: Thanks, good selection. A bit old, too.

Why isn't the Windows software listed numerically? Why is there only 4 for each Windows programs when theres literally millions more apps for Windows? Horrible list.

'Cause UNIX/Linux/Mac users don't care what application the MS fans are using like you don't care what I use on my Mac, for example. You should be thankful to the russian guy who posted it, 'cause he bothered to make a research for at least some of the Windows apps. Adding 'millions' apps would make the page table a bit hard to browse, don't you think?
