I think I have the same question at Lazaross, and if I do Darken your answer didn't quite hit the nail on the spot, as I keep going there and haven't been able to figure it out.

Tab 1, Tab 2, Tab 3, Tab 4, Tab 5

If I and currently on Tab 1 and I switch to Tab 5. I then close Tab 5 I want it to go to Tab 4 instead of back to Tab 1. How do I do that? I can't seem to figure out how to do that.

I clicked the 'Open New Tab next to Active' option which doesn't sound like it did it, but it did.

I was about to post this same thread. Pleaaase. Its probably going to be the reason I don't use this browser over FF. Silly I know, but still.

Very good question. Ask your question here >> Opera browser. :)

I tried these settings: Cycle in tab bar order | Cycle without showing list >> Don't seems to work.

I clicked on the 'Close and Switch to next' but it just added it to "My Buttons". Now what or does it automatically work?

And a wee bit off-topic but how I can keep focus on my page rather than going to transfer when I'm downloading stuff?

you can drag it from "My buttons" to any of the toolbars in Opera

This is an off requested feature, but there is no way currently to change the behavior save using the new button to close a tab. Otherwise, the "Tabs" in Opera are actually MDI windows, and use Z-Index ordering just like windows in any OS do, that is when you close a program window, you see whatever is underneath that window regardless of the taskbar order.

It seems this ought to be configurable, but is not currently. The currently active feature request/wishlist thread is here:

and you can see some of the discussions regarding it and the best effort hacks like the custom button there.

The solution: Install latest 9.5 snapshot build.

This build implements a much requested option for all you users switching from other browsers.

You can now get that Safari, Firefox, IE or <insert alternative browser of choice here> tab handling in Opera, too.

To take advantage of that, simply change Preferences > Advanced > Tabs > "When closing a tab"

to your desired behavior:

Activate the last active (default)

Activate the tab to the right

Active the first tab opened from closing tab
