Titoist
My girlfriends parents gave me their old computer for an "update", well the first thing I want to do is format and install Windows 2000, but when I put in the Win 2000 disk at bootup, Win ME just skips over it (I can't even get into BIOS). What other ways are there to format the drive and remove Win ME? I've also tried to install Win 2000 from within ME, but I get a message "The operating system is older than ME, setup will now close", so I havent gotten through that either. Farchord
figure this out and all your answers will become clear That, or boot into Windows ME, make a boot disk, reboot with the boot disk, format your hard drive, and launch the Windows 2000 setup from DOS (X:\i386\winnt.exe I think). Loading Smartdrive into memory might be a good idea, to make the install go quicker. p858snake
i noticed on my prebuilts that you have to press a special key combo (F1 on my hp brio) to get to a normal bootscreen/bios options, if you get into that change the bootorder so that the cd comes before the harddrive Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/556107-cannot-format-win-me/#findComment-588509751 Share on other sites
