A smaller (as in screen real-estate) VS for Vista?

Recommended Posts

I quite like Vista but find it just take up too much space on my screen. I've seen it on peoples laptop which have very high resolutions crammed into a physically small screen and it looks fantastic. But on my wide-screen lcd back home which has a fairly standard pixel 'density' I find some UI element but, more annoyingly, menus seem too big.

I tried making changes under the advanced section of the appearances tab but you can't seem to adjust every font size there. I guessing that you'd need to put together a full blown VS to be able to make all the changes, had anyone here heard of such a VS perhaps released or in the works. I'd love to keep the crispness of some of the excellent XP VS's out there while still enjoying the benefits of Aero.

Thanks all, I'm attaching two screen grabs of screamer to show what I mean.

umm... this is a problem indeed! something with the much bigger fonts maybe? well i am using the smaller taskbar aero theme... which is quite nice indeed. but it won't fix the windows sizes and all that just the taskbar.

actually hey i just fixed the problem :

right click your desktop

personalize

window color and appearance

open classic blah blah

appearance tab

click the advanced button

go to menu change the segoe ui font size from 9 to 8

and do the same for the title bar inactive and active ones

change the border padding to 2

and voila much smaller real estate

use this along with the smaller taskbar aero mod

search for that on google its on deviantart.com

or sumin like that.

Thanks Borbus, indeed for the moment it seems WindowBlinds is the only truly viable option and it does a decent job too. For some reason I'm biased against it though, irrational bias probably but still I'd like an visual style solution. Maybe I should take a stab at producing one myself.

Thanks all.
