How do I change the background of folders in Vista?

Recommended Posts

I tried just typing the stuff in the readme into a desktop.ini folder, but I can't get that to work either... I'm sure it's something stupid we're overlooking, but I'll be honest, the instructions could use a little more detail Andreas ;)

There is really nothing to it other than creating an .ini file with the text included found in the read me file and just adding the destination of the picture you want to use but for some reason this doesnt work for me and I think its because Im using Windowblinds...

Yea, I'm pretty sure it has to be a desktop.ini file with that text in it, but you can't just create one cuz pretty much most folders have one already, so I'm guessing you have to add it to the existing desktop.ini file. However, I did that, and saved it and had the picture file in the folder as well, and refreshed, and restarted, and still nothing...

Hi

I opened the desktop.ini file. Deleted the text. Put in what was in the instructions. Nothing.

-Take care

Did it install the image in all the folders? On mine, i have to install it in each folder, 1 folder at a time

No, it works the same way the old app for Win2k did by changing the images on individual folders which I prefer so no matter how many times you change skins the background will still be the one you chose unlike Skinstudio that after the skin is changed the background is gone...

Sounds damn kewl, but will it cost me in CPU time? If so, how much?

Yes, of course it does. Any time you display an image it's going to eat CPU time.

Even if explorer natively displayed folder backgrounds in the desktop.ini files THAT would eat CPU time.

I hate to bump, but I don't see the need to make a new topic about this.

Is there a way to, I guess this is what it's called, constrain proportions?

Like having the picture always fit to the border of the window.

I have accidentally resizing a window and seeing tiles, or having it to small and missing some of the picture.
