T7200 on a desktop motherboard?

Recommended Posts

So my girlfriend's notebook is dead (2 beeps during post - dead mobo/video) and we've exceeded the warranty period to send it back to the US to get it repaired and we're trying to salvage as many parts as we can (see this related thread). I was thinking of building a mid-low range desktop in the summer and the thought just occured to me to use the cpu from the notebook instead of going through the hassle of selling it.

Can anyone suggest a decent motherboard I should look into that can take a T7200?

Have you actually taken out the CPU? It might be soldered on. If not, it has what's called a "Socket M" connection. You can buy a Socket M motherboard if you search... I know there are Mini-ITX motherboards with this socket, and you might even find a full-size board.

Think before you buy... if the board is expensive, you might get a CPU/MB combo with the LGA 775 socket and more Core 2 GHz, for less.

EDIT: Actually, your Core 2 will have either a Socket M or a Socket P, depending on when it was made. Look at the Wiki articles.

The T7200 is a socket 479 chip, not a socket P (the T7300 is Socket P), therefore you need a mobile on desktop board - something like this:-

Or the Asus N4L:
