[Guide] Integrate SP3 Into XP (SP2)

Recommended Posts

Now that SP3 is widely available, lets get the pack integrated into your XP (SP2) disk for an easier and neater install process.

The XP tool Nlite will integrate SP3 properly, but it will not clean up the duplicate files. If you have a SP2 disk, this is the way to integrate and clean it up.

Requirements:

1. A CLEAN Windows XP SP2 disk.

2. A disk image utility such as UltraISO for extracting your XP image to your hard drive.

3. Windows XP Service Pack 3.

4. The integration and clean up batch script posted below.

Lets get going:

1. Extract your XP (SP2) image (using UltraISO or whatever editor you chose) to a folder named c:\xpsp3 <------ EXACTLY AS THIS AND ON 'C' DRIVE!!

2. Create another folder named c:\sp3 <--------- EXACTLY AS THIS AND ON 'C' DRIVE!!

3. Copy the Windows Service Pack 3 into this new folder and rename it to 'sp3.exe'. <--------- EXACTLY AS THIS AND IN c:\sp3 AS CREATED ABOVE!!

4. Download the batch script posted below and extract to any folder on your hard drive.

5. Double check you have the directories/drives set correctly as above, then click on the batch script to run. Let it run its course, and when completed, it will inform you that integration was successful. :)

6. Repack your newly created XP SP3 folders into an image of your choice, using whatever utility you used to extract the original. Don't forget to add the bootable information.

Congratulations...... You now have a Windows XP SP3 disk!

If you want to do it without downloading batch files and details on what "boot information" you need just follow the instructions in the bove link.

Hey thanks :)

Just did the slipstream with nlite and then used your bat file after removing the slipstream command, do it removed the files :)

By the way where have you seen ( Microsoft official source ) that those where the files no longer needed ( besides SP2.cab ;) ) ?

Again Thanks :)

OK, here some news, don't know if u guys tried, or know about but i did it by myself and it worked, finished the install on my laptop few minuts ago.

First:

U don't need use an SP1 or SP2 XP CD. I used the old and good XP without any update. (Windows.XP.Pro.Corporate.Final-DEVILS0WN)

Second:

integrated the SP3 with autostreamer, very easy to be truth.

Third:

in MY CASE, i don't needed add the boot file (Microsoft Corporation.img) cause i integrated my SATA driver controller with nlite, them it did the boot automatic for me.

That's it. I did by myself and it works, u DON'T need a SP1 or SP2 XP disk, just integrate the SP3 and it work as a charm.

If i can help anyone, i'll be refreshing the topic.

    • What they really need to do is automatically spell "loses" and "lose" correctly since nobody seems to know how to anymore. Then they blame spellcheck/autocomplete and don't realize autocomplete is just filling in the word for them automatically so it was misspelled in the first place.
    • If someone chooses to continue using SB and therefore goes through the manual intervention in the thread, afterwards the BSOD problem is gone. Whether they then re-enable the task doesn't matter, they're done, though on such machines it might pay to keep it disabled in case the next update (if there is a next) causes the same problem. OTOH, if someone disables SB in the BIOS, the problem is also gone. Incidentally, I noticed that this task exists even on machines that don't support SB. It's just installed across the board...and runs. Doing what on such machines is a little hazy.
