WLinstaller not installing services.

The problem started after I installed XP SP3 on a fresh install of XP SP2, I downloaded WLinstaller click it then when trying to download services it just failed and nothing I tried would fix it, I searched for a few hours trying to find a solution till I just gave up and looked for a standalone of WLM.

Well just today there was a new update on Windows update so I click it to install and then... it would not download or install. I searched quickly to resolve the problem and found a solution so I tried it and tada it worked. So I said to my self why not try the WLinstaller again and guess what it WORKS!.

If anyone is having issues with SP3 not installing updates or WLinstaller not installing services here's the fix taken from http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPo...6&SiteID=17 10 posts down.

"Just go to C:\Windows\System32 and find and register Wups2.dll.

To do that, right click on it and select 'Open With' then 'Choose Program' and find C:\Windows\System32\Regsvr32."

Hope it helps anyone with same problems I was having.

Here's an alternative (although essentially the same) and slightly more in depth method:

It seems that when running Windows XP SP3 many people are having issues installing windows live applications using the windows live installer. After much googling I have come across a solution. This also solves issues that exist with the windows update service after installing SP3.

Essentially what you need to do is:

1. Download and run the Windows Live Installer Cleanup tool from:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/3...Beta-remove.zip

2. Reboot

3. Click START>Run and type 'command' to load the console.

4. Type in:

regsvr32 wups2.dll

and press enter.

5. Type exit to leave the console

6. Download and run the windows live installer, it should now work perfectly.
