Weird noise coming from new motherboard

Recommended Posts

Bought recently a brandnew motherboard for my e6750 I bought the Asrock 4core1600P35-wifi+, And now it's making a weird noise from the motherboard(I got right in with my ear and determined it's coming from just behind the usb jacks that are on the back of the board).

It only happens when I move my cursor around on the screen, I've tried other mice and tried only putting it on the system and still makes the noise. Any ideas?

I haven't found a way yet. Reducing the report rate on my G9 definitely reduced the noise but didn't eliminate it. If I find a more long term solution I'll let you know in this thread. Likewise if you find something, I'd very much appreciate knowing what you did.

It'll be a vibrating component, like a capacitor or something. Use a plastic ruler or something and touch each component in turn -- the noise should change when you find the right one. You should then use a gluegun or something and fix the component to the motherboard to stop it vibrating.

I have the same problem with the same motherboard.

The noise increases when I scroll windows or when I copy files under windows xp.

Have you solved the problem?

Thank you! :)

its EM interference, and happens in different measure (noticeable and not) on most boards.

I now have this board as well and I can confirm that it is coming from one or two capacitors under the heatsink. I actually think it is coming from the right upper small black square box looking thing that is half way under the heatsink. However there is one that sits to the left of it and two solid capacitors below them.

I was only able to take a stethoscope to the two square like capacitors or inductors or voltage regulators (whichever of the three those might be).

I will be applying some Conformal Coating to them to see if that helps.
