Hey there.. I just got a 25mbit connection. I started a download and it only got a max of 1MB/s (like my old 10mbit). I called support for my internet and they said it could be the router that slowed me down, since my modem was fast enough. So i tried to hook up my pc directly to the modem, and then started a download and i flew away with 3MB/s (which is kinda awesome imo).

Anyway.. As you might have guessed, i need a new router, but since i am completely unexperienced on that part i would have to ask if you guys could recommend one that also has wireless? (Fast wireless could be cool too since my current router gives a maximum wireless speed of 500 KB/s lol)

Any suggestions are welcome!

thanks

I've had a D-Link DIR-655 for quite some time and love it beyond belief! It has been rock solid, feature rich, and not horrifically expensive. Couple that with 802.11N support and it's a true winner. :)

Make sure your router is DD-WRT compatible :)

It's a third-party developed firmware for compatible routers. It increases performance, more features, and lotsa cool advanced stuff.

What is DD-WRT?

Enjoy :)

I have a Buffalo WHR - HP - G54. It has AOSS which is compatible with the Nintendo DS's one. It's a good router, decently priced too. But doesn't have 802.11N support

Thats for answer Cara i'll look into that one.

Primexx, my current is a ****ty ZyXIR B-2000

mm, never heard of it. I'd recommend any of the newer Linksys models, Cisco makes great routers :)

and if you do get DD-WRT, the mini version is more than enough for most needs (read the comparison table between versions).

Yep. probably the best router i have ever used. Amazon was selling it for $99.99 yesterday. Haven't looked today but it's still probably that price.

for best G performance i'd say the WRT54GL as everyone mentioned.

If you want to jump into the N world then get a WRT160/300/310/600 or the DIR-555 depending on what you want to spend and what you need. (gigabit ports vs megabit in some cases)
