New PSU reccommendations

Recommended Posts

I currently have this PSU and I'm looking to upgrade to another so when I eventually buy a new graphics card and CPU I won't have any problems powering them.

I'm currently running:

XFX 8800GT

C2D E6550 @ 2.3GHz

3GB RAM

One DVD writer

Four case fans

The system will be upgraded with regards to motherboard, GPU and CPU.

The current PSU has coped fine but I don't think it will when I upgrade in a few months or so, has anyone got any PSU reccommendations?

Thanks :)

First off, what do you plan on upgrading to? Without knowing that it's impossible to recommend a PSU that will fit your needs. :p

That's something I've yet to decide on :pinch:

I just want a future proof PSU but it's looking like I need to have some idea of what I plan to upgrade to.

Have you got a rough idea on what you're going to buy?

Is it going to be a mid range PC, a high end machine, or an enthusiast build?

Your current PSU might just be able to sustain your current build. So the best thing would be to buy the new PSU when you have decided what it has to power.

In that case, a Corsair HX520, will support up to probably 2x 8800GTS G92's. Look at Corsair's HX line if you want modular. Otherwise there's the Corsair TX750 for a higher wattage, but non modular PSU, that'll probably be good for a 9800GX2 system, or an SLI/Crossfire system.

If you're looking in more at the single video card PSU, then stick with your VX450, it'll probably be good for up to a single 8800GTS G92 depending on how many hard drives you are running.

That's 47% off and $80 saved on a pair of wireless on-ear headphones from one of the most recognizable names in audio. The Major V is Marshall's take on a long-lasting everyday headphone.
