overclocking on a acer aspire 5100

Hello I got an acer aspire laptop 5100

it has got a 1.60GHZ AMD Turion 64 x2 mobile tech tl-50

with 1GB RAM

And ATI Radeon Xpress 1100

I am totally new to overclocking, so could you explain it as easy as possible

I heard to overclock I need a program called clockgen , ive downloaded this (v1.0.5.3) and now all ready

I don't think software overclocking is necessarily a good idea, not much control over voltages etc.

And on an Acer I doubt you'd be able to modify the FSB in the BIOS either.

I would not recommend it either on a laptop. Added heat in a laptop is never recommend especially in the usual minimal performance gains on an overclocked laptop.

Well the games could be lagging from the graphics card being inadequate, but it sounds like it could be a driver problem if its still having that issue after a fresh install.

ive updated the drivers for the graphics and thats it, what else do you think could be a problem

That sounds really odd. If you could take a screenshot of your task manager processes (after hitting the "show processes from all users" button), that could help.

in xp everything felt fine then switched to vista and it was lagging there so when back to xp and was lagging there so dunno whats going on

maybe it's overheating. Try downloading a program like speedfan (google it), and check your temperatures.

Trust me ram is not a problem (got home basic) only hitting 486mb when nothings open

75 degrees sounds pretty warm even for a mobile processor. I would try cleaning the dust out of it.

I had an AMD laptop not that long ago with a Turion 64 TL-58 and an ATI Radeon Xpress 1250 chipset and I didn't like it either because it didn't last that long on battery and was pretty slow also.

80 to 120 Kelvin? That's pretty cool man. But 75 degrees Celcius is really hot. My 2 year old laptop never goes over 60C. I recommend just installing XP instead of using Vista on a 2 year old machine.

Well my laptop never gets hotter than 70. Most of the time it's around 60-65 so 75 seems like a pretty normal temperature for a mobile processor.
