Educational/Acedemic Software

Hi guys.

I am developing a software for my school project. It is a educational software to teach users in details an encryption/decryption scheme. I am midway through the project and today was our first prototype demonstration.

After demonstration it, the feedback i received wasn't that good. The tutor said to me that it was at most worth 73/100 marks. But honestly, I want to achieve better grades. But i am running out of idea what should be included.

So now I would like people here to give me some ideas because most of you guys are end-users and your feedback will be most valuable. I guess the problem is how I presented it as in the GUI.

If you were to obtain a particular knowledge through a educational program like mine, what are some of the features you want to see ?

I already have

1. GIF Animations

2. Text explainations

3. Voice explainations

4. Broken it down into steps

How should i design the GUI to be user friendly for a educational software?

I know what i gave above is rather vague but I hope you guys can give me as much feedback as possible. I really need it.
