CrashG
Enabling PhysX on my 8800 GTS G92 made that demo... fluid (pun intended :p ). Switching it to SW mode brought it to a crawl. Edited August 13, 2008 by CrashGordon

trashpickinman
3 FPS with hardware enabled, only about 30% CPU usage. 2 FPS with software only, 100% CPU usage. 8400GS. Yeah I know, I didn't expect much from a card I bought for $8.
Mike
makes no difference to my 8600gt, gets about 7fps on the fluid one no matter if i select geforce physx or no acceleration :/

Mike
The 8400GS can't do PhysX even if it do Cuda... where do you get that from? the release says all 8/9/200 cards are supported as long as they have 256mb of memory which my 8600gt does (512mb) and i assume trashpickinman's 8400gs has 256mb
trashpickinman
My 8400GS has 256MB. I can select 'Geforce Physx' in hardware device selection, and it shows it as 'HW' mode in the fluid demo. With 'no acceleration' selected 'SW' mode is shown in the demo.
The_Decryptor Veteran Posted August 13, 2008 Veteran Share Posted August 13, 2008 I can't even select software mode :/ The demo runs ok, the "fluid" looks like crap though.

bob_c_b
Has anyone tried these drivers with any games (LOTRO in particular)? I have played LOTRO for a couple hours after installing these drivers, work just fine, exactly like 177.99 BETAs. Work just fine in Crysis, TF2, UT3 and FEAR as well. Xerxes
This fluid demo a seperate download or the one included with the drivers? (the ones found in PhysX options) I was feeling brave and decided to try them to see how badly it would run on my 8600GTS and it ran smooth with PhysX on and off  I must be doing something wrong...I'm guessing it's probally a seperate application? where you get it from? Nvidia?

lalalawawawa
If you want smoother performance, use GTX2xx or 9800 as a main GPU and a 9600GT as a GPU that will be in charge of PhysX. There is only one problem, and that is that you will need a little more blood (money). :) EDIT: This is meant for PhysX enabled games.
SoCalledChaos
The Only games that will benefit are games that support PhysX... all other games will run the same
Denis W. Veteran Posted August 14, 2008 Veteran Share Posted August 14, 2008 The first PhysX enabled game I tried, UT3, suffered in the PhysX Mod Pack maps. In Lighthouse, after blowing half the walls to bits, FPS dropped to 4. :| Tornado wasn't all that much better; a 9-bot CTF match with the tornado ripping through the map pulled frames down to 10. Honestly, that doesn't look impressive in the least. Something like what Alan Wake demonstrated with Intel CPUs and Havok was far better, and probably less taxing on the system to begin with.
