Unable to extract files to program files folder.

Am pretty sure it's the UAC that's restricting me from doing so. Am using 7-zip, and the only way I've found for moving files to program files folder, is by extracting them on my desktop, then move it over to the folder inside program files. What am looking for, is a way of extracting them to the program files folder right away. Am talking about doing this through the right-click menu -> 7-Zip -> Extract and so forth...

If i open the 7-zip file manager with "Run as administrator" this is possible, but i rarely use the file manager, it's much more quicker just to right click and extract to. So is it possible to elevate the right click menu or something like that?

well when you click extract to on the right click menu i'm guessing it opens a new window where you specify the location. does this use the same .exe file as the file manager or not?

No, the file manager is called: 7zFM.exe the .exe being used when you use the right-click is 7zG.exe. I've tried to go to properties on that .exe and set it to "run as administrator" but it still won't allow me.

Edit: So still the only option seems to be to extract the stuff another place and the copy/move it over to the folder i want it in.

I just use a file to turn UAC on and off it sits on my docking bar at the bottom... makes life easier :)

Try turning UAC off, restarting, and then trying it. If you can successfully extract the file(s) into your Program Files directory then blame UAC, otherwise it could just be privilege issues in general.

The only walkaround (which already figured out) is extracting the files elsewhere and then manually moving them into the PF folder.

just use the built-in zip function of Vista which is UAC-aware or complain to 7-zip's developers

Yeah I had this issue with winrar, got very annoying after a while. It's very unproductive.
