Even though I almost bought a Wii instead of a PS3, I've got to agree that it is not in competition with the PS3 nor the 360, which are both in competition each other. The Wii has its own gaming way, its own business model, its own specific (and sadly, crappy) games.

The thing is, MS at the moment is making much more money with the 360 than Sony with the PS3, right? They have more exclusive games I think, as a good source of revenue, as well as Xbox Live.

Which means, MS will be able to use this money to make a new Xbox, let's call it 720. And Sony won't be able to use much to make a PS4... they will have to take the cash somewhere else, which isn't good for them, or make something bad and cheap, which isn't good either, but for us this time.

Think about it, yeah xbox live is good, but how daft would you sound saying "I'll see you on xbox live later", whereas with the PlayStation home you can say "come to my apartment later, we can have a game of pool"

You catch my drift :p

(Disclaimer: Wii is next-gen. Wii can be hardcore. No More Heroes. Mad World. Manhunt 2. Metroid Prime 3. Baroque. Johnny Chung Lee's head-tracking system. The Corridor. "Next-gen" is a chronological term. Hardcore is more a matter of how games are played than what the game is or what system it calls home.)

I'm inclined to agree with Howie here on multiple, albeit conflicting, counts. While the Wii may well be a superior business model in that no loss was taken in its sales versus the subsidies MSFT and Sony made with their respective consoles, I also agree that it's probably not hurting the PS3 considering the diametrically-opposed market segments the consoles attempt to target. One is about 2x as powerful as its predecessor, uses an established format, has comparatively modest hardware all-around, and aims to bring a new style of gameplay to the market. The other is an order of magnitude more powerful than its predecessor (arguably more), has hardware that's garnered claims responses ranging from "hype-fest" to "Jesus, man" to "Oh, so that's the LHC's big brother," and aims to take established modes of gameplay and pump them full of all sorts of digital stimulants to push the medium forward, hard.

While there is some overlap in the target markets of both consoles (see disclaimer above), by and large I get the impression that the Wii operates in its own circles and the PS3 in almost entrely separate ones. (insert 360-degree-circle Xbox 360 joke here)

With respect to business model, it's also important to remember that profiting on hardware from the get-go is more important for Nintendo as they're strictly a games company. Sony can offset their PS3 hardware subsidies somewhat on their sales of PCs and other consumer electronics, as well as their music and movie divisions. You can bet that Sony corporate, the guys who are the overlords of SCEI and Sony music and Columbia Pictures and whatever other companies/divisions there are at Sony, took this into careful consideration when dealing with SCEI and their plans for the PS3.

Umm... yeah, that's exactly what you won't catch me saying. I'd rather see someone on xbox live later to play a video game (you know, on a video game console) than "hang out" at someone's "apartment".

They're making more money from software then they are losing from hardware. As far as I know that means they're already raking in a profit on the PS3. Better than what most people expected not long ago. :yes:

I think the PS3 will get a price drop before the holiday season, and will be a hot seller this season.

See I've wondered over the last two years if a 3rd console is necessary. I think many would agree that the current box, providing all bugs have been ironed out by now (still on launch console :p) that the 360 has some pretty long running legs. Plus I feel that the 360 brand is quite strong, fresh and modern. Maybe MS would do a refresh of the model instead of an entirely new product.

I like stringer, he is probably one of the more truthful people Sony has about how they are doing.

Nintendo have done fantastic with what they have done, they are making money on every Wii, and they have taken over the casual gaming market.

The Ps3 and Xbox360 originally were mostly aimed at the hardcore markets and are only just fully coming into the casual market themselves properly, a market the Wii currently is selling dominating in.

There is no lie in what he said in what was posted, nice to hear an exec not twisting the truth in their own way, lol.

people that are against home will always be against home. they cant understand that A) home is a nice option for most people and B) even they dont like it doesnt mean that its 100% crap and noone will like it. it just means that these people have their heads waaayyyyy up their own asses!

What are you on about?

I guess many people (me included) don't care that much for it, but being against it? I don't think so.
