Hey guys,

I have posted here a few times about a new network I'll be building in a new house. The Phone and DSL will be put in on Monday. I have one question though. All the of jacks in the house have all 4 pairs inserted in the jack. Is this correct or should it just be 2 pairs (RJ-11 configuration), will the other 4 wires interfere with voice communication, or can I just leave them be?

Not sure if I have the best answer for you, but two wires will be used for voice and the other two are almost useless (unless you utilize the ultra low voltage carried on those wires). I haven't had interference issues in my home, with most of the jacks being 6P4C and the new jacks I install as 6P2C.

Was that close to what you were looking for?

When I was at my old house I split off the Cat5 and ran voice and data down the same cable. It worked "fine" phone ok and network ok. I'm not sure if it slowed down the network but then again I was only using the net then on ISDN. 100 Lan will work fine on 2 pairs and phone on 1 pair, but 1000 lan won't work unless all pairs are connected. but in answer- it will be just fine I believe.

Edit: No I just remember our office is having Cat5 pulled everywhere for phone, fax & lan and it works great. sorry totally forgot
