4 GB Word Installation

I am trying to fix my dad's girlfriend's computer. She walked in with a hard drive with 8 MB free space (I am NOT kidding). After playing around with the temporary files, I got it up to 1.9 GB. For some reason, I found a 4 GB Word 2002 installation. What do I do to reduce the size?

I don't find those figures too accurate - I installed the same program twice in one day and both had very different figure.

Just for comparison's sake, here is the size of my entire Office 2007 installation...

The Sizes Reported in Add & Remove are seldom accurate. Your best bet is to go to the folders to see their real sizes or better yet get something like Treesize which will give you a better idea of where your space has gone.

If Word is really taking up your space you have a couple of options, uninstall it and use something like Openoffice or get a bigger HD.

have you run the Cleanup manager yet? (start -> run -> cleanmgr)

Was it really last used in 2005? Might be safe to uninstall altogether.

I think in Windows XP, they say the last used date is the installed date.

Not necessary in my case. It reports the last time that so called program was opened and runned.

Did you try cleaning out all system restore points? Oh and yeah, ignore what the Add/Remove applet's telling you about program sizes.

Just but a bigger HDD. You can get them dirt cheap.
