MACHINE_CHECK_ERROR

Recommended Posts

Hi

I've been getting that blue screen of death lately, on a Hitachi drive. It happened all of a sudden, and since that first time I've been getting the MCE error whenever I try to do CHKDSK or access the drive. Leaving it alone (since it's not a boot drive, and only contains data) would skip the MCE error. Any suggestions as to how to remedy it? MCE error does not surface when I physically remove the hard disk, but if possible I'd like to salvage the hard disk because it has a few videos of sentimental value. All that shows up in the disk now is an mp3 file, though it states that there's 50GB/79GB used on the My Computer screen.

Ouch... that sucks mate.

Uhm... see if you can download Hiren's Boot CD - it contains a few data-diver programs that might let you pull the data sectors themselves without trying to "read" them per say... I know my wording is terrible but it helped me once when I had a hard drive go *poof*. Manged to save about 80% of what was on it :)

I got it from a torrent, but I'm sure you can find it other ways - if not, shoot me a PM with your e-mail and I'll see if I can't send it to ya that way :)

    • lol it was a typo, fixed! haha imagine an actual 4TB Gen4 NVMe for $40 in 2026
    • Get over it, has nothing to do with my point.
    • I really don't like these rounded corners and huge borders in the viewport. They just waste space without anything in return.
